You suck

Al I wanted to do was go out for a quick dinner with my family. Instead I stood in the cold dark damp night for an hour staring at your dog that thought it could take my Tahoe head on.

My 6 year old daughter sat in the car crying her eyes out and quite frankly your dogs entrails spilled all over the street kind of killed my appetite.

She looked like a nice dog, young full of life, I could swear she was smiling just before she disappeard under my car. She felt pretty solid as she bounced around underneath my seat for what felt like an eternity.

Your selfishness will probably cost me a nights sleep while I ponder fixing my bumper tomorrow and the grissly task of scraping your dogs hair from the bottom of the car. I know it's there because when I left the house I did not have a furlined tow hook like I do now.

I wish the police had let me speak to you when you showed up. But you seemed to take it pretty well and just showed that you did not give a **** about that pretty little thing.

You suck, I hate you. I hope god is a dog and you get yours.

Hope you feel good that you made a grown man cry.

Oh, man! Horrific. I feel for you and your family, and of course, the poor dog. I know if it was me, I'd be shouting over the cops' shoulders at the owner - shouting pretty much what you said your post.

Again, I'm sorry to read what you guys have been through tonight.

You did the right thing not swerving to protect the dog and endangering your family.

I hope you get past this in a quick fashion. The owner of the dog is responsible for the damge to your car, I would make him pay for it. Was a police report filed?

I would have him pay for the undercarraige cleaning as well. I would not do it myself. I would make him pay for it to be done preofessionally.

I hate people that do not look after their pets like that. I am always careful to make sure my dog is secure.

When in NC where I have no fence she is always on a leader outside, even though we are in the boonies she could get away and find a busy road and I could not deal with that.

I feel your pain. I did a similar thing a few years ago, but with a big dog. I had slowed down to about 15 mph in a residential area in my van. Some people were walking their dogs on the other side of the street. This big dog suddenly charged in front of my van on the way across the street to investigate the other dogs. Didn't kill it but injured it badly. I felt so bad going to the people's door to tell them what happened. The guy took the dog to the vet & I bet it had to be put to sleep. I felt really bad about that for a long time, especially since the dog seemed to be friendly.

Been there. The dumb ass on the corner with the pit bull didn't tie her up. Beautiful dog, not aggressive. Doing about twent down the street and I see it dart out, whack, same noise, same feeling, didn't have time to hit the brake. About half the kids in the neighborhood watched. Good thing it had that huge pit head on it, nice chunck out of it but not too serious. Good thing I was in my f-350 4x4 because it went right under, I think the front diff might have taken the chunk out of it. My veggie lovin, animal lovin GF is screamin at me like its MY fault. The owner saw it and apologized, beer breath and all. Wanted to run him over with the truck and take the dog home with me. We have two, whats one more? Don't even want to tell you about the lab we found at 11pm in the 405 to 101 interchange after it had been hit. parked the truck sideways across the ramp to get it. Bled all over my back seat (crewcab) while i tried to find a 24hr emergency vet in the valley. Found one, they wouldn't treat it until I signed the financial consent. Worried all night about the bill and the dog, decided I would find a way to pay for him, called the vet in the morning to check in on my new buddy, well... Ever see a 6'3 240lb contractor tear up over a damn dead dog?

Thanks for the support and letting me vent.

Truck damage is not as bad as I thought, I lost a fog light assembly. The plastic portion of the bumper which was the big money piece snapped back into place so that's good.

slakjaw,

Sorry, I was angry last night and had to vent. I actually left out the really grissly details and won't even tell you what I found under the truck this morning. But that's what it's like when it happens, it's real and it's not pretty.

Chapo,

This one was a pit also. I've also done the same, blocked traffic to get to a Beagle that had been hit. People were just driving around it even though it was obviously alive. Someone helped me get it into my car and I took it to a vet down the road. Said I'll pay the bill. Dog made it and the owner was found.

Every animal in my house is a rescue. They come to you broken and bleeding and full of fight for life, how can you not help them. I respect and admire that spirit. I learn a lot from my animals.

Kudos to all you guys for caring. They're loving critters...ALMOST all of them, and it is our responsibility to look out for them, to keep them secure.

Big kudos to Stomachmonkey for rescuing that Beagle and others that have done the same thing. I'm convinced it gets logged into the "Big Book" somewhere.

Man, that really sucks. Sorry you and your daughter had to deal with that.

As for the other situation with the beagle, thanks! Try not to judge his owner too hard. They are escape artists and runners. A couple years ago one of mine got loose, and I went after her down the street. When she saw me, she darted across the street. A car hit her, hard. The driver honked and gave me a dirty look... then drove off! WTF? Dog was laying there one her side.

Luckily the dog checked out fine at the vet.

Some people are too stupid to own dogs and some are too lazy. In the house across the street the people own to Jack Russell terriers (?). It seems almost 2-3 times a week, at night, when I am out walking my dog they just open there front door and let the dogs race out. If they see me and my dog they come racing across the street while the owners yell for them to come back. Just a matter of time before they become road kill.

Yes it is a pain in the asss to get bundled up in cold or wet weather to take my dog for a walk on a leash, but I love him to much to not do it.

Thanks for posting, Stomachmonkey. This thread reminds me that humans can be compassionate. I think highly of you guys.

My work mate, a happy, smiling, HARD-working retired wrestler and longshoreman, raises guide dog puppies. They get them at about eight months and keep them a year, so socialize and evaluate them. He and his wife take the dog on plane rides, train rides, bus rides, airports....generally expose them to every distration they might see. The dog comes to work occasionally but rarely. One day he reported that someone in the office had complained. About the guide dog puppy. Apparently, this is someone who doesn't like dogs, even puppies.

I'm fairly smart and can understand lots of things but not this. I don't understand how anyone can not like puppies. How do you not like puppies? Huh? I don't even want to understand that.

I can't believe how stupid some dog owners are... even my neighbors who are nice, smart people that keep there dogs in the back yard most of the time. Almost every morning they fling open their garage door and the dogs run out and roam the neighborhood for ten or fifteen minutes.

My mother had a way of deaaling with neighboors that just let their dogs roam.

One of our rescues (technically I stole him, long story, got hauled into court 3 x's over it, court found in my favor though) was a pure bred English Mastiff. He was a 150 lbs of skin and bone when I brought him home. After a year of rehab he filled out to his proper size, just north of 225 lbs.

I gave him to mom. Some of the neighboors freaked when they saw him, worried he'd bark and that he was dangerous, he was really a big mush.

Every time my mother encountered a neighborhood dog running loose she would walk up to the house with the Mastiff on a lead, ring the bell and tell the homeowner, "see this thing? I walk him on a leash, if your dog comes after him he can not defend himself while I'm holding the leash. If that happens I promise I will drop the leash and you are responsible for what happens next. Now are you going to keep yours inside from now on?"

Within 6 months there were no more dogs running loose in her neighborhood.

Wow, I'm sorry you had to go through that but thanks for posting it. That is among my worst nightmares. We have a houseful of rescues as well.

I may have to print up a copy of your story for my idiot neighbor. One of his dogs is a really good boy but horribly neglected. If we ever move from here, I'm going to dognap him.

Again, sorry that happened to you.

Farmers have have the "3 -S" code of conduct:
Shoot
Shovel
Shut Up

Loose canines cause all sorts of headaches for everyone, and the jacka$$ owners are the cause of it all.

I feel your pain.
