A good reason not to drink and drive...

You might kill your best friend.

Friend of mine, who was underage, was at his friend's house with a girl. The kid who lived there got his mom to buy alcohol and they got drunk as ****. Apparently they were still drunk in the morning, but the mom kicked them out. I think he got stoned, too. I guess he lost control of the car, or was ****ed up, or something, because he hit a factory --a brick wall-- at 50mph. A brick wall. At 50 miles per hour. His friend was in the passenger seat, and the girl in the back.

My friend's friend, died in the accident. Why? First he hit the windshield, and then the engine came through the firewall and tried occupying the same space, but he flew out of the car.

The girl is alive, but will never be the same. She needs a hip replacement and has multiple broken bones. She's 18.

My friend has a broken neck, broken ribs, completely smashed ankles, because the alternator came through and smashed them, and broken arms. If he recovers, he's going to prison. He's 18 or 19.

Don't drink and drive, guys, you might kill your bestfriend. And cripple a young girl. And yourself.

Make smart choices.

+1. Learned about the taxi system while living overseas. Driving while drinking is really frowned up on there and even one drink will land you in the klink.

Take a taxi if you are going to drink!

Sounds to me like there is an adult who is going to be following your friend into jail. She obviously isn't thinking very clearly herself. When she kicked them out, she should have delivered them to their appointed destinations (hire a cab if she needs too. never mind the obvious legal issue here. This is so pathetically sad. Your friend isn't going to live this down anytime soon. Sorry to hear it.

Yep, I forgot to mention that part. The mom is definitely going to prison, and likely for a long time.

I read the story in the paper after my best friend told me about it; I was wrong in my initial post, the girl is under 18 (she isn't mentioned in the story. My friend's friend was 16.)

About two years ago, my other friend's little brother was killed in a drunk driving accident. His mother was drunk and high, with open alcohol in the car, driving him (the little brother) and his twin sister somewhere. She made a left turn in front of a truck that went through a yellow. She did a year, the truck driver is doing a lot more.

I can't believe how people don't learn from all this...especially considering we all know each other. After seeing one of the sweetest little kids I've ever known lying in casket, and his adorable twin sister with broken legs, I swore off drinking and driving even after "just 1."

BTW, the little boy was 5. His poor sister will never be the same.

My daughters step brother(23) was drunk driving and crashed into a tree Thanksgiving weekend. He was the only one in the car. He lived a very short 23 years.

Just after graduating high school, I barely got two girls home that were riding with me before I hit a concrete culvert. I wasn't wearing a seatbeat, but I was lucky just losing the car and getting a broken nose and many cuts. Keep an eye on your kids, but more importantly let them know how stupid they can be when they drink. And tell them you'll come pick them up anywhere anytime no questions.

7 AM on a Sat morning a girl pulls out to cross the blvd that is also a bus route. It's a 2 way stop. She can't see because there's an RV parked one house from the intersection on her side. Bus doing 35. It smacked her broadside and then ended up on a lawn across the street. She lived a few hours on life support. She was drunk at 7 AM. Got up to go somewhere after an all nighter. Happened in front of my house. She was 16, a cheerleader and a scholar.

Went to a 20 year olds wake yesterday. She was my Niece's best friend.

Details are not clear but appears she was drinking and driving at very high speeds. She hit a utility pole, was thrown from the car and and lay 75 feet away for hours.

What a waste.

I've often said liability laws against people like bar owners are too strict, that people should take responsibility for their own actions, however in this case it seems quite clear to me that the mother is DEFINITELY liable. It's absolutely foreseeable that kicking out underage kids who are drunk and/or stoned could result in a serious accident.

Are there more D&D incidents, or are they just being reported more widely? Has the anti-D&D message been so overwrought that people have begun to tune it out, like the "War on Drugs" and the accompanying "just say no" campaign? I know I've grown weary of the overly dramatic ads they've been running on TV lately - they remind me of wrestling event ads.

I agree that we're oversaturated with "THE MESSAGE".

I think there is more reporting of these events over the holidays b/c it's "especially tragic" and therefore better ("$") news for the vultures. As well as providing an opportunity for the bleach-blond bimbo to exhibit her concerned, socially-conscious persona (between this week's featured recipe and the "on the lighter side" featurette).

Nick: I believe it happened on Friday night/Sat morn in Springfield (Rt 22). She went across the center isle (not sure how with all the buildings) and took a pole out.
