Combat experience vets - need some info

You know that fly moving around your house. Take out a five pound hammer and try to kill it without hurting anything else. Can you succeed?

Around my house, I use a fly swatter designed to prevent collateral damage. I never to to my neighbor's house to swat flys, he swats his own flys.
