Latest firearm purchase.

Ruger Blackhawk, .357, 6.5 barrel.

6 months ago I would not have considered a single action gun. But between my boss, who does quick draw events, and Jeff Higgins letting me shoot his .45 Colt, the die was cast. They're a lot of fun. I figured it would make a decent trail gun, at least for Washington state. Pretty stoked about getting myself a fancy holster.

You are a liberal. Take the gun to the police station and turn it in!

Very nice piece and accurate to boot. Enjoy!

Very cool. Neat thing about the new Blackhawks is that they went back to the original frame size, so the .357's don't have to live in the bigger Super Blackhawk frames. Makes for a much handier trail gun. Can't wait to see it.

Nice! I've got the same gun in stainless steel. Beautiful!

Most intimidating handgun I've ever seen was a Ruger Redhawk (.44 Magnum w/ vented barrel). Made Dirty Harry's gun look like a play toy!

Waiting periods?? LMAO.

I could walk into Sportsman's Warehouse, plop down my cash, fill out the form, wait on the call, and be out the door with my pistol in about 30 minutes total.

Gotta love a free state!

30 minutes? You must write slowly.
Most states don't require NICS call if purchaser has CCP. I've thought about hanging a sign giving a $10 discount to permit holders.

Its the same here. If you have a permit, you can walk out the same day. I have never bothered, because you don't need a permit to carry hiking. But it is getting bothersome waiting. I'm going to pick it up soon.

Rather than start a new thread, here's one of my recent purchases.

It's a Remington model 673 in .350 Remington Magnum. Similar to a rifle sold in the late 1960's and early 1970's, it's really a much nicer firearm. The original version had a plastic trigger guard and plastic barrel rib on an 18.5 inch barrel. This version has all steel parts on a 22 inch barrel and stronger action. You can hunt any game in North America with this rifle.

Interesting caliber. Really one of the first 'short magnums'. Bullets weights up to 280 grains available in commercial loads. Thats quite a punch.

Yes it is, and it's more than a little tempting to get on in two other calibers, 6.5 Remington Magnum and .300 Remington Short Ultra Magnum.

If I were still into the bolt guns, that new Remington 673 would be near the top of my list. I find the .350 mag very interesting, but had always held off on getting one, for a couple of reasons.

I have always liked the idea behind the .350 mag, but its execution always seemed a bit lacking. The rifle itself, the old "Mohawk" or whatever they called it, did appear a cheap P.O.S.

A buddy hunted with one for years; he really liked out here on the wet, densely forested side of Washington. Almost the punch of my heavily loaded .45-70 at short range, but better suited to reach accross to the other side of the big clear cuts. Kind of a neat hybrid, so to speak. Great back-packing rifle, too.

Its very "hybrid" nature was the other thing that put me off for years. For woods hunting of our critters large enough to require its punch, a 420 grain cast bullet at 1900 fps out of the .45-70 always seemed better. For hunting those same larger animals where longer ranges are expected, like in the eastern half of our state, the .375 H&H always comes out. It has been just recently that the do-it-all nature of this rifle/cartridge combination started to look better and better. Maybe I do "need" another bolt gun after all...
