Sportsman's Warehouse: Total incompetence.

I usually purchase my pistols from a place called Discount Gun Sales (DGS) here in Seattle (Kirkland actually). Their prices are competitive, and their service is excellent.

Recently however, I went looking for a Ruger Blackhawk, and they did not have what I wanted at DGS, and they told me it would take then quite a while to get one through their distributors. So I went to Sportsmans Warehouse in Federal Way, WA.

I buy the gun on a Sunday. We have a 7 day waiting period here in Washington, but the waiting period is really up to 7 days. It could potentially clear earlier, but more often than not, the local sherrifs dept. that does the backgroud check never responds, and the guy dealer is allowed to releases the gun after 5 business days if they do not hear anything.

So last Saturday roles around, and I want my gun. I give them a call, and they tell me that the gun as not clear yet. I'm disappointed, but I'm also insanely busy, so I don't think to much of it. The week starts, and I am now swamped. I remember on Tuesday, and call, and I get the same response. "It has not cleared" WTF?

So I call my regular dealer today, and ask him what could be going on. He tells me the only reason they would be holding the gun is if the sherriffs department had asked them to, otherwise, they should have released the gun after 5 days. Now I'm a bit freaked out. I have never even been arrested. So I call Sportsmans Warehouse, and ask them point blank if the gun is being held. After being on hold for 18 minutes the idiot comes back on the line, and explains that there is not a hold, and that he just spoke to his manager, and they figured out that it would be ok to release the gun, and the proceeds to tell me about the law. I cut him off and tell him that I know the f*cking law, and I sure wish they did, considering that their an FFL!!!!!!

What they hell is that about? Do they even bother to train the employees?

I'm a little irritated with myself that I let this go on so long, but I have been jammed beyond belief with work.

Moral of this story I: BE TRUE TO YOUR GUN DEALER.

Moral of this story II: Get your CCP so you don't have to deal with this crap.

In Illinois, they will call you in to the automated system while you are in the store. You have to wait 7 days from when you are cleared.

There are only two gun shops I will even bother to try to buy a new gun through. Adventure Sports in Edmonds on Hwy 99 and Kesselring's up north of Mt. Vernon off of Cook Road. I will never try to buy gun at a shop that does not specialize in gun sales and only gun sales. Even some of those I stay away from; many are staffed by utter buffoons.

Adventure Sports can get special run Rugers that no one else can. They have a couple of distributors they order from that order their own limited runs of some pretty cool stuff. Special finishes, barrel lengths, and sometimes chamberings. They have Blackhawks in every standard configuration, all the time.

Yep, incompetence. Same thing at any Guitar Center, the slackers who work there will promise to order something for you, but they NEVER will... Losers...

It's a bit of an inconvienence when none of the local shops have any selection and you have to travel 200 miles to the Chicago area to get anything decent.

I didn't cuss out a minum wage high school kid. I did cuss anyone out.

I did let a guy (I'm guessing in his mid-40s) know that I knew the gun laws of my state, and that I did not need him to explain them to me. I also pointed out that I was more than a little surprised that a place like Sportsmans Warehouse would have such a vague idea of what the gun laws were. I did not raise my voice.

I'm not sure what you mean by my temper, but I respect firearms, and would never consider using a firearm in anger.

I'm not wrong about this, and I don't feel bad about what I said to the guy. They should know the law.

Sounds like maybe this hits a little too close to home. Hmm... slacker, slackjaw, hmm...

You can probably untwist you panties there, big guy. Most of the guys that are allowed to work the gun counter at these places are middle-aged losers, not high school losers. Same thing I guess, just older. And since when would being in high school and making minumum wage be an excuse to not do his job properly even if it was a "minimum wage high school kid"?

If a little mix-up and delay like that gets you all riled up, what do you do when you're confronted with big problems?

Keep it all in perspective....

I dunno, I usually just laugh about this kind of stuff. The high school kid was TRYING to make your life hard and what not. These worker bees have no say when in a huge corporation like that. So, IMO, getting pissed off at some worker is out of line when the corporation is the one to blame. Now, excuse me while I wring your saliva out of my panties and get on my way. Thank you.

Also, a slakjaw is not related to a slacker. These are two very different things.

Wow, do you always defend a lack of personal responsibility? Yuppers; must be the e-vil corporation. Can't be that the employee doesn't give a *****, and that is why he is still working in such a capacity into middle age.

Firearm sales are one of the most tightly regulated in the country. It's not likely that a major retailer of such would fail to train any employees that may be engaged in such; they legally cannot afford to slip up. I'm sure the guy was well briefed at one time.

+100.

Were not talking about some obscure regulation in the snipe hunting guide. Were talking about one of the most basic laws regarding gun sales in the state.

Moreover, if you guys (slakjaw, competentone) want to think I'm a jerk, thats fine. But I find it disturbing that you would so readily accept incompetence, and more fundementally, poor customer service. They're not selling donuts, they're selling guns. Its important that it is done safely and correctly.

Gander Mountain in Geneva, IL has been nothing but professional. I've been very happy with them.

You morons go to places like WALMART and Sportsmans Warehouse and you EXPECT SERVICE. If you do not get service then you cry and whine and moan and b%tch. then you scream at the guy behind the counter who could care less because there are a hundred other $8.00 an hour jobs he could have. The poor guy has no say in company policy but you want him to WIPE YOUR ASS FOR YOU.

It drives me NUTS! IT MAKES ME SICK!
