Angry Oh Look, The light went on and on and on....

This really pisses me off. Yet, I am not suprised. We all heard the Light bulb joke of the Philips employee who asked GE why they make light bulbs that dont last as long...GE said, " So we can sell more".

Now enter the 21st century: Every home can have fluorescent bulbs to save on heat and electricity, but it costs a lot more than a standard Incandescent bulb.

Ca. Proposes to Ban the Incandescent bulb and Now GE in a whizbang move, finally after Years of development, has an Incandescent bulb that competes with the Fluorescent bulb.

TADAAAA!

Insert comical Barney the Dinosaur Voice here. "HI kids, We at GE bring you a new Kind of light and it never existed before today! It will save your parents money, and its good for the enviornment, so make sure you tell your folks to buy lots of new Incandescent bulbs!"

GE REALLY LONG HYPERLINK

Now, if we can just find that carburetor that gives you 40 MPG.

Or the car engine that gets 100 mpg. I'm sure that's been invented at least a dozen times and quietly quashed by big oil each and every time.

Those already exist. My 1978 Mazda GLC had one. That car easily got 40 mpg, but it couldn't pull greasy strings out of a cat's butt. But I digress.

Trying to envision a chain of events that would lead one to try that...

Beat me to it. As soon as their backs are REALLY against the wall, the auto industry will MIRACULOUSLY come up with earth-saving technology
