Gander Mtn...
The best local gun shop we have near us is called "Gander Mountain" and they have excellent pre and post-sales service. I've purchased a pistol, shotgun, rifle and a gun safe, as well as hunting/fishing/outdoor gear and they are always sharp and get me a great price.
When my dad and I bought my son his Browning A-Bolt in .243 WSSM over a year ago, we took it back there for the scope and to get everything adjusted, they treated us well and everyone at the gun counter kows their stuff! I don't know if they have stores across the country, but I try to buy everyting I can from them...

I drive 200 miles to the one in Geneva, IL because of the same thing. They have 1000's of guns in stock, from rifles and shotguns to handguns. They're kind of like a Dick's Sporting Goods, but they specialize only in outdoor activities. When I've been there on a Saturday, they've had no less than five (5) people staffing the gun counter, and more in the fall. I find the people there to be more knowledgeable than those at the local shops as well.

If you're interested in them, they're public: GMTN. Unfortunately, they share the segment with Cabela's, who's walking all over them. The outdoor retail market is growing way too fast, and there will be consolidation in a couple of years.

wow, wow, on the gun thread...the other one.
i think that everyone in life should have a good butcher, a good fish monger, and a good gun dealer. lately, i have been loving my archery pro shop man. life is too short for shrinkwrapped meat and smelly fish. i may hold the record for the longest time a chinese dude has spent in a bass pro shop. my head would probably explode in a gander mtn, or cabelas store. but for my firearm happiness, i just collect the used service pistols from my bro, and my step dad just gave us his shotgun collection. split between my bro and i, the log says we get approx, 53 shotguns each.
