That might be a little harsh. But it certainly is not a "successful culture". A successful culture does not have so much misogyny, poverty, corruption, and illiteracy.

"The Nothing That Is: A Natural History of Zero"

Robert Kaplan

"The first evidence we have of zero is from the Sumarian culturt in Mesopotamia, some 5,000 years ago. There, a slanted double wedge was inserted between cuneform symbols for numbers, written positionally, to indicate the absence of a number in a place (as we would write 102, the '0' indicating no digit in the tens column"

The Mayans invented the zero shortly after the new era, later devised in India in the mid fifth century, spread to Cambodia near the end of the seventh century and into China and the Islamic countries at the end of the 8th century.

Virtually all of that was prior to Islam, or was during the early part of Islam before the previous cultures were so badly influence by Islam that exploration and science ground to a halt.

In Islamic countries other than Arab ones, things are different. Malaysia is an example, very industrious area. Still, they've not blazed any trails recently to my knowledge.

Yeah, I know, I dropped the zero in 5,000 - no pun intended.

Hey, you guys can use whatever rationale you need to justify anger and hatred - that kind of thinking's been popular and very successful in Christian culture for centuries. Lets see, what exactly have the Hindu's given us? What about those damned buddhists? What use are they?

Uh oh! If that is your baseline, I'm in line for ignore...I surf on the tech side, do my due diligence and rarely if ever post there. Someday I may have something to add.

Wow. I just read the opening post and wow! The first and largest part is all about how much bigger our dicks are than everyone else's. Kinda the same talk with the same excited voice I heard all through the Fourth Grade. Blast the world with our ray gun and leave a charred, smoking desolation. That's neither mature nor accurate.

And then we finish by blaming it all on the "left." Oh, and then there's the part about conservatives being able to see shades of grey and the liberals being black-and-white thinkers. Well, Snowjob......if you were to become interested for just a moment in understanding something new...a reality you don't see yet....consider this: The rest of the world is certain that our "conservatives" are very simple thinkers. The folks who are looking at our strategy and tactics and thinking "wait a minute....let's look at this from some other angles" are what you call "liberals." So for God's sake if you're gonna get drunk and post silly sht that mostly just demonstrates your grade school viewpoints, please don't also try to give yourself intellectual compliments at the verbal expense of the vast majority of people in America and the world.

Yes, terrorists and our responses to them are going to result in some tragedy. Increasingly so if terrorism does not recede. No, liberals are not terrorists nor do we support them. And no, we do not believe it's a simple as bombing them into the Stone Age. Hardly anybody thinks that. Except of course, conservatives. Apparently.

Now....get off this "conservatives understand politics better than anyone else" bull****. Consevatives hate government. How are you going to convince us they know how to run things. It looks as if they don't. So back off the liberal bashing if you want to appear thoughtful.

I simply do not understand why liberals are so concerned with what the "rest of the world" thinks or why it is germane to the discussion. Why would backing off liberal bashing make anyone seem any more thoughtful? It has done nothing for you. Besides, as long as posting anything that doesn't agree with the far left point of view is always identified as bashing by you...why bother?

The "rest of the world" likes America best when it's weak. Well, not really weak, but appearing weak (while defending the rest of the world from the enemies they pretend don't exist).

edit: post Cold War

That's a silly, ahistoric statement. Care to try again, this time after thinking.

The size of the military, in terms of the GNP, is very relavent. It gives the relative strength of the current military compared to what it was during WW II. Dollars mean nothing. The percentage of our output means everything.

And yes I bash liberals. Why? Because they are responsible for most wars. Sort of like the bad driver whose actions cause a bad accident behind them. They drive on, unaware of the damage they have caused.

That's correct, Bush II is a liberal, in the socialist/fascist sense of the word, by any definition.

It's only relevent to those wishing to make the military expenditures seem small when in fact they're huge.

I'm sure it does, to you, when you want the gargantuan military budget to look small.

Without the monstrous sized military, these sociofascists wouldn't be able to cause as much damage, further, it's guys like you that want to "teach lessons" all around the globe that are as much a liberal as the Bush'ists are.
