Advantages to being a contract employee
I work in a medical office performing exams. I'm currently an hourly employee but have considered making an offer to be paid per exam. My work week would now go to Mon to Thur. I will lose the 401k and health ins. Has anyone done a similar conversion and do you have any advice?

I'm in the same situation now as I'm considering several opportunities when I leave Ford as an ex-salaried employee at the end of this month...It can be very confusing...

You can work for SEVERAL other offices if your a 1099.
Talk with your Accountant prior to signing off on being 1099 you will have alot more write-offs, but your tax rate will change as well as your insurance man...you might need to add malpractice to your insurance....If you have a malpractice rider now think of enlarging it. I'm 1099 I work for 3 companies and own a 4th one that I have 5 employees that work for me.

Thanks for the idea on the malpractice Jim. I had not considered that.
Wouldthe write offs for tax purposes include vehicle payments? Any other good write offs?
