Oh, well...perhaps some of you purists choose to ignore Porsches are a part of NASCAR's history (and I don't mean just the first IROC races).

Especially in the 80s, the racing was close and competitive....but there wasnt the manipulation that we see now. Plus, the cars were really Fords and GM's. Do you remember how cool it was in the mid 80s that Chevy and Pontiac actually built special Monte Carlos and Gran-Prix's to compete with the Thunderbird? If you wanted to race it, you actually had to build it! Much of the aerodynamic development we saw in our passenger cars of the 80s was due to Ford and GM needing to stay competitive in NASCAR. Oh, and cheating??? Pu-leeeze ![]() But honestly, there is no racing today that is as cool as what it was in the previous generations. F1 and sports car in the 60's, Nascar in the 80s.......even in the late 80s when AUdi kicked butt and took names in SCCA and IMSA. We will never see that kind of action again.

You said a mouthful, Dave. If anyone got to see the likes of Richard, Bobby, David, Cale, Junior, AJ and Gurney at Riverside, they saw a race.

I think NASCAR would be wise to use a lot more of the dead time during races to show some of that great history of NASCAR and to show also some of the stuff that goes into making up a race car and a race team and race tactics and car adjustments. Did they do any of that during the 3 hours of coverage prior to the race ? Car races are so much more than cars chasing each other . You know it and I know it but do the people selling it care ? That goes for F1 and ALMS also John
