Is Valentines Day just for the Gals???

I work in an office that is 80% guys. Looking around I see that one or two of them have gotten something delivered from their sweeties. But I also see that almost ALL of the gals have gotten something. Is it just me? Or is that the way it is???

That's the way it is. It's the "new equality."

A stupid holiday. Everyone knows the only holiday that really counts is Thanksgiving.

Sure, but eat enough fish, and you're bound to get mercury poisoning.

If we can get some action out of this, than it is all good.

And florists.

Speaking of, my wife used to be a florist -- by the end of the day, she didn't want to see anything that resembled a flower.

Even to this day, we celebrate Valentines day a week or so after the 14th of February.

Here's a quick piece of trivia - on average, Valentine's Day is the second busiest day for florists. The busiest day is Mother's Day. Not everyone has a lover, but everyone has a mother.

+1, family and/or friends share food and company. Good stuff, pun intended.

Valentines and Christmas are out of control. Shop, shop, shop, buy, buy, buy, or you aren't a good loved one.

My wife and I have been toning down our participation in these merchant holidays, and treating ourselves whenever we like to.

For not being a gal, I did okay this year...

I got a home cooked meal consisting of stuffed mushroom caps, bacon wrapped filet, and a giant lobster tail, red and white wines, creme brulee and a nice bottle of Tequila as a gift.

I actually don't mind Valentines.

Yeah, it is all commercially driven by Big Cards and Big Flower, but you don't have to buy into that stuff too heavily.

After you've been married 20 years, raising a family, it is easy to be so busy all the time that you don't do or say things you probably should, as much as you should. At least I know I don't.

Our Vday tradition, which we've done forever: I pick up a small bouquet of flowers, a card and a bottle of wine at the grocery store on the way home from work, we order in chinese food, and have dinner in front of the fireplace. Low maintenance, but very nice.

Well duh.

I bought my wife a rose and some chocolates. She is bringing cookies to me and my students after my class tonight. It all works for me.
