$95,000 for a CGT motor?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-Porsche-Carrera-GT_W0QQitemZ180086371794QQihZ008QQcategoryZ33615QQ rdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

$95,000? Really? Somehow I doubt there is a part number, but would Porsche charge $95k for a production motor? That seems absurd, even for the CGT.

They want a bid for more than 95K without actually showing a picture of the actual motor? The stupid thing is that the car doesn't look totaled. I bet the owner too the insurance money and decided he was too stupid to own the car and turned it over to these folks for some amount. They are hoping to make a killing on each part.

Given the really limited number being produced, I would guess that they are not going to get far. Really, how may CGT owners are going to be looking for used parts?

The dismantalers look like they just dumb-lucked into that one. The car is sitting behind a Neon, in the backround they are dropping a sundance convertable. (note the "dropping" from the rollback)
That engine would wakeup my 944 though.

It'll probably show up in an early Ford roadster for next year's show. Those folks are stupid spenders. Half mil is nothing to them to win the big one.

LOL!

You guys don't actually STOCK that thing, do you? Seriously (I've wondered about this with other uber-rare items), if someone orders it, how quickly can you really source it? It seems kind of a dicey proposition making the assumption that you could source a CGT engine or clutch or whatever from Porsche (or wherever else) quickly and guarantee that they can get it to the buyer ASAP. If they don't deliver, it's YOUR reputation that gets beaten up - not Porsche's.

I mean, it's great that you offer it and have a direct relationship with Porsche and whatever other vendors you do, but I know if I ordered a $150,000 engine and it didn't show up because of some misunderstanding between my vendor (Pelican) and their distributor, I'd be mighty P.O.-ed at the vendor, since they said "we have it".

Just curious as to how this all works. Some of this stuff is AWFULLY expensive to have sitting around in inventory and I'd be shocked if you actually did. . .

Let's see... I (probably like most of you) average about one bull***** pre-approved credit card offer in the mail every week. Usually for about $20k. So in eight short weeks I could have enough plastic to get this CGT motor on my doorstep... Would you guys be o.k. splitting it up over eight credit cards? I'm pre-approved, after all.

Yea, we have six on the shelf in the warehouse ;-)

Seriously, though, it's unlikely that Porsche has any of these in their two warehouses here in the States. But we'd get it from Porsche in Germany (like we do with many of the rare parts we sell) and it would take an extra week or so to arrive.

Considering the value of the car, it doesn't really look totaled.

I would think it would make more sense to fix it, w/ 2k miles, then try to sell all of those expensive parts to a (very) small market. But what do I know.

The price for the engine is fair.

Scott,

Does the CGT motor qualify for free shipping from Pelican? And will Wayne be including a chapter on a CGT engine swap in his upcoming Boxster/Cayman book?

So someone's gonna buy a $142449.43 part, and then get nickel and dimed on the shipping? Sheesh!

Hey, they're heavy. Besides, would you want "free shipping" on a $142449.43 part? Through USPS?

for a not needing rebuild engine for a real carrera GT or GS engine? yup.

Of course, a Real Carrera GT or GS has 4 cylinders and 4 cams....

Man, why can't I ever be the (lucky) little old lady?

"Uh, no, Mr. Postman. Nobody dropped off any Porsche engine here last week. You must have the wrong address."
