Well done. You did the right thing. So many other drivers feel the need to try and justify their existance or their car by trying to prove something. I even see it in some 944 and 914 owners. Not all, just some. They envy the 911 and try to compete with it to show that they are worthy. It is all about insecurity.

BTW, my 1980 SC can smoke a WRX POS, even an STI (whatever the heck that is) but I don't feel the need to do it. I don't have anything to prove, I have a 911 that is completely stock except for some minor suspension tweeks and a little bolt on accessory on the intake/exhaust ;)

It is actually rooted in the act of 'dominance' - ie 2 males show up and need to prove who is the dominant one.

I don't think I'd call an STi a POS...maybe you don't know what it is.

As a reference, my 79SC with 3.6 and 280 at the wheels could juuuust stay ahead of the STi on track. Both on track tires.

I would have to say that the only rival the 911 has as far as a production car's dominance of any given type of racing is concerned is the WRX as it relates to WRC. So when you talk about a 911 and a WRX (or STi) you really are comparing oranges to oranges here.

It reminds me of the old argument between Brits and Yanks regarding Rugby and NFL and who is the toughest. Brits scoff and talk about how the yanks in the NFL wear pads and the yanks talk about the speed, power, and bone crushing force that players in the NFL hit each other with and add that a season would only be a few games long if they did not wear pads. Both are legitimate sports but depending on which side of the pond you grew up on you are very likely to think that either one is a joke. For the record I of course think Rugby is a joke and nothing more than a game of smear the queer employing no strategy whatsoever and of course a Brit would probably argue that it has loads of strategy and is the most physical sport in the world. 6 on one half dozen on the other.
