I was bitten by a Brown Recluse spider on Camp Pendleton, CA while I was in the USN in 1989. We found the spider's nest in the window frame of the building I worked in and we took a few specimens to the authorities to show them and they accused us of bringing them from somewhere else. I was lucky and only ended up with a hole in my back, down to the muscle but a field worker in Fallbrook, CA lost an arm and almost died, so there are Brown Recluse spiders in southern CA.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.
