I think this is one area that is totally the fault of liberals. The self centered flower children of the 60's passing their narcissism on to their children. Its revolting.

I have a friend from college (graphic design major--graduated in December 2000) that still has not gotten a job. He will tolerate nothing less than walking right into a position as art director at a major advertising firm. Keep in mind he has done NOTHING for the past 7 years. He has a 7-year old bachelor's degree that has gone unused.

In his case, I blame his mother. He is one of seven children and the only boy. She treats him like he is the second coming of the Messiah. He can do no wrong. He couldn't figure out why everyone in college couldn't see his obvious superiority in every conceivable way. He couldn't understand why ANYONE would ever argue with him. He is always right.

I blame his mother, but his coddling in school certainly did nothing to damage his overinflated self esteem. I seriously think he may go through life accomplishing absolutely nothing and thinking he is the greatest person ever to live. I hope he does one day face reality, but I don't have much hope.

No different persepective than we thought of the generations after us.

Yeah, blame the liberals, blame the flower children, blame the hippies. What a knee jerk reaction. What I remember is highlighting service to others. Peace Corps and food banks, etc.

You forgot about the YUPPIES? They are the real example for todays children.

Yep. Everyone is equally culpable. Sitting around, getting high, and talking about "changing the world" is equally as selfish as pulling equity out of your house to buy a new boat while not saving a dime for your kids education.

There is more than enough selfish behavior on both sides of the politcal spectrum. Our politicians, regardless of party, are pretty much exclusively self-serving.

I have a number of friends, all from the same family, who are like Legion's friend. One had his MBA by his 21st birthday. Refused to take a job lower than CEO, despite the fact that he had never worked for anyone in his life - not even a summer job waiting tables. Then there are other people I graduated with who weren't able to get jobs right away, so they kind of putzed around, and 12 months later they were competing for entry level jobs with the new graduates. 15 years later some of them still don't have jobs in their profession.

The moral of the story is, no matter how low you have to go to get there, you have to be willing to start at the bottom beforeyou can work your way up.

Hmm, I see you have met my stepson. 23 yrs old and mommy still wipes his butt for him. He can murder the Pope and she would say he did no wrong. He is the most conceited, stuck-up egotistical, smart-as$, narcissistic person I have ever met in my life. But there is no one else to blame but his Mother. I warn her all the time that one day she gonna get a phone call, that hes in the hospital because someone beat the piss out of him, because of his superior condescending additute.
I honestly do like him,and have no problem with him, but he needs to snap out of it and get a dose of reality

It's amazing, his sister and his father are the total polar opposites. But I can see where my wife has made him this way.

I thought the article was kinda shallow. I was expecting tales of schools that didn't give out grades for fear of upsetting kids' self-esteem.

BTW, I'm gonna start an "If I ruled the world" thread. Because I know it would be a much more ordely place, once I got it all cleaned up. Flame away!!!!

There is a difference between a "job" and "working"...Pelosi as a Congresswoman has a job...she shows up after a hard day at the Mall. Working on the other hand requires effort, expenditure of energy, that I'm sure she knows little about. Unless of course you count talking on the phone all day. Then she is the hardest working B!tch in Congress.

My comment about liberals was actually a reference to my own parents. They fed my sister and I all sorts of ***** about how special we were and such. It took me until I was about 30 to get my head outta my a$$. The wife claims I never quite got if fully removed. She's probably right.

Blame it on the self esteem movement that became the fad in schools about 10yrs ago. Grades were inflated(even more that previously), edicts came down from on high that grades lower than xx would no longer be allowed, school was supposed to be 'fun', no one should have to 'sweat' for success, everyone takes the same 'exit' exam, it become gauche to have a winner(or real score) at little league, everybody plays at soccer games, sats, had to be curved. It goes on and on. The latest is S.F. schools banning homework for christ sake.

his first job was to totally dismantle one of the best school systems in the country where there were appropriatly challenging classes for all abilities and replace it w/ a socialist wet dream of a school system where everyone takes exactly the same exit exams regardless of inate ability, you have kids w/ IQs of 80 sitting next to kids w/ IQs of 140.
