iPod volume problem. I need a work around.
I have a factory iPod installation in my daily driver. Problem is that I have to run the cars stereo at nearly full volume to get a reasonable sound level from the iPod.
I understand that the iPod has a volume limiter to protect our ears. Is there any way to defeat this? I read about iMod, but can't find the download anywhere. It would be nice if someone made a small inline amp that would plug into the docking port (not the headphone jack). Any ideas? It's a video iPod (G4 or G5)

I have an iPod nano that uses the docking port and an FM transmitter in the car. I also have to turn the volume WAY up to get a decent volume and all the way to Max to get decent vol when the windows are down.

i do the same. you can go through i tunes and jack the volume of each song up one at a time, but that would take forever.

sorry if this is obvious but have you tried turning down the volume level on the iPod to ~3-4?

on my nano, adjusting the volume doesn't do anything for the volume out of the docking port. That only affects the headphone jack. I believe it's designed that way, but a bit more power would be nice. I wondered if it was just something to do with the FM TX that I use.

I had to add an amp under the seat of my 911 to get any decent volume.

the volume limiter is set fairly low on the IPOD, if you turn this to its max it should help. Also with any of the FM modulators the FM signal will be very weak and you will need to crank it up to get decent volume out of it. I used a Monster Cable FM tuner which supposedly is the best but still wasn't very good. I finally gave up and bought a Sony CD player with a line in. The quality is outstanding and I no longer have to search for an open FM signal or crank the volume.
