someone hijacked my email

I get lot's of "undelivered mail" notices for mail that I never sent. Is there anything I can do besides rig up my spam filter to trash it all?

Advice would be appreciated.

How many are you seeing per day? I get those occasionally. I believe some of them are a ploy to get you to look at the SPAM. In other spam they pick a particular address (no theres) to use as the return address. You must get picked a fair amount. Just keep trashing it. I suspect that your email is fine.

it's about 50per day now I guess. Different messages from the different mail filters.

It's a yahoo mail account. I think someone has figured a way to send email using my yahoo email acct as the return address.

This has been going on for years. I run my own mail servers and spam filters. The email headers are being forged. Easy to do and a pain to deal with. My filters are really aggressive and I a large "whitelist" of email addys that are allowed not questions asked. Problem is that my email is on the list and when The forged emails bounce, my filters see them as being legit.

none of them have my actual email address, they're all fakename@mycompany.com. I have a catchall mailbox that they're coming into. I may try to eliminate that catchall and see how that works

Someday, everyone will just log off, use hard wired phones and write letters. Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Milt,

That would be wonderful, kind of. Could you imagine everyones phone bills?

Additionally I don't think USPS could handle all the letter mail that would be generated when little miss sunshine 911 asks if she should buy a rotten purple PORSCHE.

Flex, Turn spam filter on.

Sometimes the "return" is actually a spoof to get a click through...

True. And sometimes it's an indication that your machine has been hijacked to distribute spam. The forums at www.grc.com are the place to get help.
