If Cosby were your family or friend, what would you say to him?

Nothing? Express your forgiveness? Tell him you're repulsed? ???

Friendship would have went away years ago.

Amazingly people will forgive/forget his crimes when he passes, like MJ. Can't believe people go to MJ Tributes, Shows, etc.

I won't listen to MJ music, nor look at cosby shows/movies..........

Having lived in that era and considering its cultural context, where getting a girl inebriated either with alcohol or drugs was closer to the norm than anyone these days will accept, his behaviour was on the edge of what was kosher in those times, but not WAY out there as it would be viewed with the lens of today.

Personally, having been to a few dozen parties in my time where drugs were handed out by many with a bias towards ensuring the girls got their dose, I would say that the generation is guilty....he is just the celebrity who is bearing the public stockade for it.

Back in the day, given his celebrity status, not sure if I would have acted differently? Look at Magic Johnson, Tiger Woods, Clinton and the endless list of others.....I knew girls over the years going for those types; they weren't always the real VICTIM

I would say understand and lets move on............

there are stages here.

a. tiger who did everything with the right number of holes.

b. clinton who is said to not always have taken no for an answer.

c. cosby who is said to have a thing for what is by any definition rape.

Because he is a famous person I expect him to behave better. He is a role model. I would say to him you have done the crime you should do the time. It's the drugs that got him.
Most of us I would think would have used our wily ways in our earlier days. I cannot say I was perfect as a young un. Did not use drugs to seduce women. Yes its a fine line.....

I grew up in that era also. I saw it happen. It was not "the norm" for guys to give alcohol and drugs to women to have sex around here. I did see women use it as an excuse to have sex. The old "I really didn't know what was happening" routine.

Mr Cosby was an habitual offender and belongs in jail.

It's epidemic on many college campuses today. I went to a commuter college and wasn't real social, so I don't really know about what was the norm when I was in college. But it needs to stop, and I think some good hay could be made from Cosby's situation in the effort to stop it. If he was my friend I'd probably be backing away from the friendship. If he was family - you can't pick your family, but reunions would be awkward.

From the Cosby incidents I've read about, he wasn't handing out quaaludes to women in bars, which I understand was sort of common in the 70's club scene (think Studio 54, Troubador, Gazzari's, etc). Rather, Cosby was arranging for private settings with women he wanted to bang - scheduling acting lessons, coaching, script readings, rehearsals - not really the kind of situations where the women were going in with the intention to party. Still, in all the cases I read about, all the women said they knew something was fishy - change of plans, it turned out Cosby was all alone instead of with handlers or his wife, hotel room instead of office, etc. - and they still went. I have to think a few of them could have easily been seduced without drugs and others, all being adults, should have had better judgment than to get themselves into situations like that. Not blaming the victims here, but they don't sound real innocent. Oh, and anything Gloria Allred gets involved with automatically makes me sympathetic to the other side.

As for Cosby, I don't have all of the facts. But if he were part of my family, and I could impartially see that he was guilty, I'd disown him. That's the way I was brought up. You become a criminal, and you're out.

I heard that it was said of Ray Charles that if you wanted to be a Raylette, you had to Let Ray...

I think that there is a lot of funny business that goes on everywhere that we may be surprised by.

I'm disappointed... Because he always portrayed that perfect father figure and as it turns out he was a very long way from that in real life.
Did he actually "rape" those women? By definition I don't think he did but he certainly did things that by any measure he shouldn't have been doing.

He must have known he was doing the wrong thing but did he really believe that?

I don't think "it was normal for the time" is accurate at all. Sure things happened but the same things are happening now.

Or................ "What has man done to get to that little triangle?"

So what would I say to him if he was family or a friend??? To be completely honest, Not much really but I'd have very little to do with him.

To put forth the wholesome persona of Cliff Hucstable and then to actually be completly opposite of this is good acting I guess. I believe that if I were family or friend, that I could look through this facade and see the real person that he is/was. I would have never gotten close to someone like that, so forgiveness dosen't apply, because I am/would be so replused.

during his heyday he chased a member of my extended family into a private room-after his advances were not welcome and made it clear what he wanted. It took a very strong no but not a physical altercation to end it.
I cannot speak for any other situation but in this case it was far beyond a gentleman or what would even be considered civil. Turn up the pressure, add star power and some will allow it to happen. Maybe higher success rate among those on the periphery of the entertainment industry. Does that make it consensual? Your answer may say more about you than him.
I'd ignore him and warn those I care for to do the same.

Rick Lee,

That is one of the stupidest bias / reasons I've ever read on here.

What the heck would you call it then?!? What do you think the drugs were for?

I'm pretty sexual offenders act on an impulsive need and Bill Cosby has shown that he needed to drug women over the span of decades.
