I honestly do not even know. I go to school at Miami University in Oxford. I was just on their wireless network when I did the speed check.

BlueSkyJaunte 03-03-2007 10:50 AM

Seriously, 666 kb/s. :D

Happy with the downlink, not with the uplink but I don't really use up bandwidth much. Just makes it slow to save big files to the company server.

My bigger bottleneck is how to get internet upstairs to my study. Wireless is really slow. Thinking about getting someone to run Ethernet cable. Only affordable way to do this will be to run it on the outside of the house - yuck.

Now, doing the test from the laptop connected via the 802.11g wireless network

3.10 down
0.36 up
Using San Jose server

3.22 down
0.37 up
Using Seattle server

So something's gotta be done about the wireless network bottleneck. Any ideas? I could upgrade to 802.11n now that the new n-enabled Airport is available, and get new WLAN cards or USB adapters for the notebooks.

i have a light connection ...3 Mbps/1 Mbps
if i were to pay 59 euro's instead of 33, i'de have 20 Mbps/2 Mbps

Exactly what I'm paying $29.95/mo. for through Verizon DSL. When I had Verizon DSL in SoCal 8 yrs ago, it was horrible. They seem to have their act together now and priced well too. YMMV

You can read reviews, do testing and troubleshooting at www.dslreports.com

Waiting for ViOS to get here. Would rather go without than consider cable with T/W.

Pegged the meter in both directions.

But this was on my work computer.. and it sits right on the SONET ring internet backbone in Dallas.

:D

azasadny 03-03-2007 06:17 PM

I'm pretty consistent at 1.5Mbps download and 500kbps upload using my DSL.

JavaBrewer 03-03-2007 06:57 PM

Near the same as Art, SBC DSL is yielding 1574 kbs download and 388 kb/s upload. I'd go cable modem but my provider is Time Warner...no thanks.

BGCarrera32 03-03-2007 07:06 PM

Local server

9615 kbps download
367 kbps upload

Is that good or bad?

Better than average download, worse than average upload. You can get the porn much quicker than you can send it. :D

To you networking-savvy guys, here is a test of the new Airport. The weakness appears to be slow NAT on the WAN port. Is this a showstopper for home use, do you think? I do not have any fancy home network in mind - just the basic cable modem -> airport -> PC/mac via LAN and WLAN.

Well, I'm stuck using my Cell phone for a data connection today. I decided to check the speed. I'm surprised it is 256kbs download! I'd say pretty darn good for an Edge phone. Upload is 80-90kbps.

12/10 at work

jluetjen 03-09-2007 11:28 AM

3533 down, 353 up on Comcast DSL.

911teo 03-09-2007 12:39 PM

OK... I got 1.5mb up and 1.5mb down. Very consistent every time.
We have a T1 line.. what should I get?
