I know this might not be the right forum, but....
My son is turning 16 in about a month. My idea for his birthday is to fly from Milwaukee to possibly Oklahoma City, (or somewhere between Las Vegas and Oklahoma) find him his first vehicle and drive back home on Route 66 (or at least whatever is left). We would probalby leave April 6th. I've never been to Oklahoma and it would be great if I could get some ideas of where to find a good used car or truck. Right now the idea candidate would be a mid 90's Chevy or GMC extended cab, 2wd 5 speed pickup. (one of the reasons is that I could use it to pull my 911 racecar if needed!). Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks Jeff |

Sounds like a fun trip. A buddy from work picked up a 96 GMC reg cab with a 5 speed for his son two yrs ago. They've had a blast with it and I hear it's been very reliable.
One thing to consider though is if you can get a 5 speed on anything but the 4.3 6cyl?, -not sure if that motor has the towing cap. to tow a car and trailor?-esp if it's 10 yrs old.. |

Was thinking V8 all the way
Thanks,
I know what you mean. It shoudl be a fun trip, but finding a pick up may be a challenge? That's the part I'm nervous about, and hoping to find someone that can point us in the right direction as far as where to look in the area. Jeff |

Lacking any better info, you might try doing a web search ahead of time to pick out some likely candidates, to save you time when you are on the road.
I bought a used BMW 325xi for my wife (I will get to use it in the summer) this way since I could not find a car locally that matched my criteria (5-speed) and my wife's (dark blue with tan leather interior). I travel to Virginia often on business and usually fly into Washington DC, and was able to find the car we wanted in Maryland, about a 20 minute cab ride from the airport. Check vehix.com, autotrader.com, the "automobiles" section of yahoo.com or MSN.com, etc., I am sure I am forgetting others. The BMW showed up on one of these sites (not sure which one) and was also listed on the certified preowned section of the BMW website. Since you are looking for an older vehicle, you won't be able to find it in a CPO program, but you might be able to find a list of GM or Ford dealers in OK and search the inventory on the dealer websites. That should be a fun trip. Good luck with your search. Scott
