Need help planning honeymoon, been to Fiji?

I'm getting married on June 10...put it off for a long time, but I guess I'm finally ready to take the plunge at 32.

I've heard that Fiji is expensive but worth it. Air Pacific has a special...they fly 747-400s nonstop from LAX to fiji for $1000 each including taxes! At that price I can pay extra for a hut on the beach. Anyone been there, and if so, where did you stay? I've heard that taveuni is a wonderful island.

Here's a pic of us...I think she's worth spending the money on, no? Did I mention she drives a mean 911 at the autocross?

Jay congratulations!!!

Been to Fiji a few times, worth it. The main issue is to pick where and for how long. Is all about budget, all the large hotel chains have resorts there.

Very difficult to go wrong if is your first time in the South Pacific

Been there several times and always had a good time. Also look at Bora Bora, which is close.

Another excellent place to look at is the South Island of New Zealand as well as the Maledive Islands. The Maledive's are futher away but simply beautiful and once you are there no one will bother you, ie no internet or cell phone in every hut.

Here are a few from Male, the Maledives. Each person or family has their own hut. The bathroom and shower is out in the open with a hot-tub in the back under the stars.

This beach is 10 feet from the hut. Every hut was less than 10 feet from the water.

Showering in the open was interesting but the hot tub was a blast.

My parents went to Fiji for their 10th anniversary. To this day they say it is the best trip ever (and they have really been around the globe).

Basic rule on Fiji: Take fewer clothes and more money than you originally plan on.

Great place for a honeymoon.

what Joe said. my ex g/f has been nearly everywhere (she just got back from leading a tour/cruise off the coast of Thailand) and the Maldives is probably her first choice.

Yeah, they have a coup every couple of years it seems, but it's always bloodless and from what I've heard people carry on as if nothing happened LOL.

Besides the political scare makes for hungry resorts (i.e. good deals). I'm not exactly made of money...hoping for a place around $2-300 per night but could spend more. Thinking more of a secluded beach with a somewhat fancy grass hut style place. This is more her style (outdoorsy person) than a posh palace type place, not to mention cheaper.

Thanks for the tips so far!

Jay,

If you want secluded then Maledives sure takes care of that. The island chain is made up of something like 400 islands and you can pick and choose what you want or can afford.

The bedroom

Beach on the other side of my hut. I saw less than 20 people the entire 3 days we spend on the island. Everyone has their own beach area and you can be as alone as you wish.

Outdoor shower
