I need to do some air and water hoses involving 90º fittings. Browsing through the McMaster catalog I found push-on hose, which looks easy for DIY and has a nice selection of ends available. Page 254 at http://www.mcmaster.com
Is this type of fitting reliable for long term use? No clamps--it just "pushes on" to a special barbed fitting. Push on fitting are rated for 350psi with no clamps. Traditional barbed fitting with a clamp are only rated for 150psi. I must be missing something... ![]() Last edited by RallyJon; 03-09-2007 at 05:21 AM.. |

That type of hose is standard in the machine building industry, simply push it on (without oil as a lubricant) and it is definately good to 150 psi. And they are very good.
I think the ratings posted refer to the fitting rated pressure, and the hose rated pressure, not the assembly with the hose on the fitting. To got o 350 psi I would use a proper clamp, but at 'normal' pressures no clamps are used or required. What exactly are you using them for?

Push-Lok hose and fittings are well known brand names(Parker) in industrial use and are designed for water and air.

These are very good, and do not cutinto the rubber covering the way some gear clamps do;
http://www.oetiker.com/usa/start_pr_ksr_e.htm But they are definately optional, a properly installed Push-lock hose will fine for what you are doing. Press them on with a bit of soapy water, no oil.

The hose from McMaster is rated for air only, according to the page.
I have used the equivalent auto stuff, Aeroquip AQP. It is really tough stuff. I bought my bits from a local bus repair shop that also sold hydraulic fittings. The fittings were brass and price was right. |

Just buy Parker Push-lok. This is not a place to economize. You'll own this stuff for a long time...

I just looked at the .pdf for Parker Push-Lok. The fittings and hose are identical to the Aeroquip AQP I have. It would not surprise me if the manufacturer is the same.
