Any of the people who really should be president are far too intelligent to ever try.

Think about it...even with working for the current administartion, I don't think that would "taint" him in the Dem's eyes. And as much as Bush tries to appear tough and Clinton tried to appear compassionate, or however you want to characterize either of them, I think CP would command, no...demand, respect both domestically and world wide.

I bet the warring factions in the middle east would take notice if he made a vow to combat terrorism.

Bush must've seen Powell as a threat either to his plans or to his brother's (or other cronies') potential future run at the presidency. Powell is a guy who can run on a conservative platform without alienating moderates and the right-wing neocon whack-jobs that own King George II would never allow such a person to usurp their plans to dominate the WH for years to come. For these and who-knows-what-other reasons, Bush II made him the fall guy/liar/face of deception for the fabricated war on Iraq, which also had the "nice" side benefit of destroying CP's credibility.

Neocons. They eat their own.

As far as being the fall guy, all CP has to say is "I had faulty intelligence. In the position I was in I supported the commander in chief. If elected, I will not put my subordinates in such an untenable position. Next question."

And while palatable to the conservatives and moderates, I feel that many Dems, save the far left whack jobs, could support him on a number of issues. And I don't sdee him as so dogmatic that the areas upon which many americans are divided, that he would alienate those constituents. I think there would be a certain amount of tolerance, agree to disagree attitudes by many voters without it being a deal breaker.

Regardless, I think he's a what you see is what you get no BS kinda guy. He didn't go whining to the media after the UN fiasco. He left. And that spoke volumes as to his character.

I'd be happy if he ran as an indie. Nowadays, Reps and Dems are hard to tell apart on anything other than the hot button issues.

Unlike every member of the current administration [sic], Gen. Powell knows what it *means* to go to war, when it's necessary and not, and what it takes to win. That certainly explains why the dogmatists pushed him out.

I could vote for him.

Can you imagine the debates if he ran as an independent? I can just see him giving that stern military stare to Mitt/John/Hillary/Obama/Rudy/whoever, and without saying a word communicating the sentiment "Which butt cheek did you pull that BS from."

Regardless of your political bent, THAT alone would be worth the price of admission.

I would love it, and I think we really need a candidate who more accurately reflects the values and principles of the nation.

The neocon republicans are so steeped in dogma that it has become a form of insanity.

The democrats wouldn't recognize a threat if someone came over here and blew up some of our citizens.

They're both a lost cause.
