Buy on rumor, sell on fact.

I just bought a bunch of shares of TSO at $53 and change. the (unsubstantiated) rumors are flying that Sunoco (SUN) is buying TSO, some guestimates but it at $70 a share.
Probably not true but if it is, at least I'll get some bank out of it.

The market research seems neutral to hold on this one, but I just bought a hundred shares with some cash I had sitting in a sweep account, we'll see.

Ive done some basic reasearch on this one over the past few hours. Seems like a perfect fit, but not for a buyout. A merger of near equals would be business genius IMO.

TSO on the left coast, SUN on the east and near east, identical businesses, same stategy, it all makes sense.
Plus I happen to know that Bruce Smith (CEO of TSO) has aspirations of surpassing Valero. Seems that bill Greehey (former CEO of Valero) and Mr. Smith have similar ideas and stategies, almost as if Mr. Smith is reading Bill's diary.
Not that long ago a small oil company called Ultramar 'merged" with Diamond shamrock. Soon after a smaller company called Valero "merged" with them but it was really a take over. That's how Valero got big and Bill Greehey got to control a very, very large company and get very rich. TSO wants to do the same thing. It's no coincidence that TSO and VLO are both based in san Antonio, with corporate headquarters very near each other. History has a tendency to repeat itself and it worked great for valero, why not Tesoro? Too many coincidences to think it is not intentional. Plus a vice president of TSO told me about six months ago that the rivaly between Smith (TSO) and Greehey (VLO) is hot and heavy. Friendly contest of egos and all that.
I gotta think this is all planned out to make Bruce Smith the CEO of a very large independent oil company, maybe larger than Valero. I'm riding this one (off and on) for a while.

Bill Greehey is a very formal man who loves power and respect (and bar-b-que). He insists on being called Mr. Greehey even by his friends and co-workers as if he were far superior. Bill Smith is a more charismatic man, who treated me respectfully when I shook his hand for the first time. He actually carried on a conversation with me for a few minutes which showed that either he cared about a peon like me or was willing to kill some time for image. I believe he was sincere. BTW he owns about 1.8 mil shares of TSO stock which makes him one rich somb!tch. He doesn't need the money, he's doing it for fun. Listening to him give a speach is like being hypnotized, he's that good and that real.

All of the above is based on personal experiences, pure speculation and rumor, public information, and in no way contains any insider information.

I've had TSO and VLO on my "stock ticker" for awhile and they are a good stable stock. i think you're right, we'll see a significant jump happen soon. Also "Whole Foods", and Masimo (NASDQ)MASI are good stocks. I've almost doubled my money on MASI, and think it will double again, solid company with a major position in its market. I'm going to throw some cash at TSO and see what happens. Keep your ear to the ground, and update on VLO.

Well, I'm getting nervous. the rumor has died down and the CEO is selling his stock like it's going out of style. I decided to sell it all (again) and wait until December to get back in. If the rumor turns out to be true I'll kick myself but right now I'll have to be happy with the quick $25k profit. Not bad for 9 days of doing nothing

OMG, I just opened it up and got ready to put in the sell order, and it is up 13.5% today! I put in that sell order so fast my keyboard was smoking.
That another $40k!

short?
Tomorrow, maybe. Unless something big is happening this stock has to adjust later today or tomorrow.

This just in,

Tesoro Corp. (TSO:Tesoro Corporation
News, chart, profile, more
Last: 64.98+7.78+13.60%

TSO jumped to $64.97 in early action, trading above the $64-a-share cash offer lodged by Kerkorian's Tracinda Corp. to purchase 28.75 million shares, representing a 16% stake.
"Tracinda believes that the fundamentals of the petroleum refining industry make it an attractive area for investment," Kirkorian said in a statement.
"Tracinda has chosen to invest in Tesoro because Tracinda believes that the company is well positioned within the industry and has a management team that is effectively executing its strategic plan. Tracinda looks forward to participating in the growth of the company alongside the other shareholders."
The offer amounted to a 12% premium over Tesoro's closing price of $57.20 a share on Thursday.
Kerkorian currently owns 5.5 million shares of Tesoro common stock, about 4% of the San Antonio-based company's outstanding shares.
The offer comes as oil has hit record prices of more than $90 a barrel, which has had the effect of squeezing refiners' margins because the prices of products such as gasoline have not kept up.

Seems like everything is down today though.
Anyone check ISIS lately? Up 75% over 6 months. Your welcome.

Yeah, but I only selected one out of the four, and it's "whatever" . I was contemplating picking up some TSO yesterday (I'm still holding NS), but I guess that train has already left the station. Good move on your part!

it's down $2 from when I put so it is adjusting. I love getting out at the height of the feeding frenzy, doesn't happen too often.
There is a chance that KK may back out of the bid, that would send the stock into a death spiral temporarily. short might be a good bet but has it's risks.

Thanks to your recommendation, Sammy, I'm now up a few bucks. I only wish I had bought a few more shares at 53.5. I placed my sell order last night, thinking, "You know, 5% profits over a two week period is pretty good," then checked the news about lunchtime to see if my sell had gone through. Sure enough, I sold at $65, 20% higher than I bought. Wow.

Excellent.

Cool djmcmath, I'm glad it worked out for both of us. 20% profit in 10 days is nothing to sneeze at. If I ever get to VB you owe me a beer (a cheap one)

But now would be a real good time to say, please don't anyone go thinking that I know what I'm doing just because I've had a string of good luck. I'd hate to have anyone lose a significant amount of money based solely on my guesses or hunches.
One of these days I'm not gonna be on the up side and I don't want to drag anyone down with me.

$900? Wow, you have a lot more faith in the advice of random people on the internet than I do.
