Making Small Leather Pouches

I want to make a small custom leather belt pouch with a flap closure, stiff sides, and lined compartments to hold specific items.

I recall, from when I was a kid, we used to take stiff leather, punch holes with an awl, and stitch the pieces using waxed thread. I was thinking of doing something like that.

But I don't know of a good source for leather stuff. Any suggestions? Also, anyone do stuff like this?

Was just kidding. Its not like the old days when there was a Tandy store every mile or so, but they are still alive and kicking.

I remember. They were everywhere. I used to buy a lot of leather from them to make hardened leather armour.
It was good money, but I stopped when they all dissapeared.
