Looks like we will be there either 20th or 21st (Fri or Sat) Apr. Trying to work around my son's schedule. Most likely will arrive in Tampa on Thursday sometime. Usually are in the Tampa area for the weekend and then back north on Monday. Hope you make it down.

Great steaks, cooked to order, chicken fried, and fresh catfish. Oh, now non-smoking!!! steaks start at $7.95 with salad and fixings. GOOD STEAKS!!!!! No alcohol....:-(

You guys are making me hungry for a steak, I think I'll head down to Taylor's on 8th & Ardmore right now. It's the oldest steak-house in L.A., and really good with absolutely unmatched ambience. Dark, would be smoky if not for the smoking ban and just haunted with the ghosts of "guys and dolls" of day's past.

It is so good that John Malkovich discovered it while shooting a film across the street from my building and then ate there every night. Not that he is the last word in culinary matters, but people like that eat out in the best restaurants in every city in the world on an almost nightly basis. Plus it's (relatively) cheap.

Denis,

Was thinking the same thing! This thread is really making me hungry for some meat!

Lucky for me I have a couple of rib-eye's in the freezer ready for the BBQ, so may take one out tonight and let it get ready for tomorrow night.

After all, we can do it better at home anyway!

The Met in Seattle is excellent. III Forks in Dallas and Bones in Atlanta are tied in my book. First time I had bone-in filet was at Bones, now I always ask for it; it's hard to beat.

Gene and Georgetti's in Chicago was pretty good about a decade ago when I was there. Not a fan of any chain of anything - Shulas, Ditkas, et al.

Some of the best in Brazil in any neighborhood churrascaria.

But I'm a big fan of most any basic French bistro Steak et Frites.

Something we can agree on! I just got home from Taylor's, I was wrong about the "oldest in L.A." part. It's only been there since 1953, but still it has great ambiance. The rib-eye was good, but I've had better. Usually at my Dad's house, cooked on the Weber.

My Dad, who has spent about a Carrera GT's worth of my inheritance on eating steaks in good restaurants, (and good for him), always said that the best steak in town was at "The 1404 Club". (His address). If you know how to buy a steak from the butcher at the Supermarket and you know how to season it and cook it on the grille the way you like it, it's hard to beat anywhere. Plus you can sit there and watch the game in the living room while you eat it and rip a good fart when you're done. Tabs, I know you hear me on this.

(I hope that none of the girls are reading this thread, but I doubt it. Steak is really a guy thing).

Berns is a couple hunded for 2 with a reasonable bottle of wine. with the wine celler they have it is too easy to pay more for the bottle than the beef.

In philly I like the Palm over Mortons and Ruth's Chris but the Palm is a lot more than RC... Hands down for me its Peter Lugers in NY but if you call today maybe you could get a weekend table in June. I was in Chi in 2006 and ate at Gibson's which I liked a lot. When I was a younger man who thought I was hot **** I dined at the Palm frequently... Now I am married and have a son LOL.

Just wanted to post a followup. Had dinner at RC for the first time in a few years (in Philly, after seeing Spamalot ). Legion I agree 100%. If that's prime, so is my shoe. Actually very well cooked, but couldn't disguise the ordinaryness of the meat.

And where do they get off charging 3x retail for a boring cal cab? Ugh--Philly at its worst.
