I'm with Singpilot on this one. Toothpaste was the only one I had on Ignore now that Mul 1/2/3/~ is gone, now it's a clean slate.

Pat was a troll, pure & simple. Same as Mul, same as RedUFO (although his was at least entertaining...).

No tears shed here.

Dan in Pasadena 03-14-2007 03:43 PM

Off OT a few days and I hadn't heard Pat was banned or whatever. I'm not sure I even understand his stances on a lot of things? but I never read anything indicating he ADVOCATED death of American soldiers, etc. I know he has the extreme red a$$ over the Civil War and things he considers to be the outfall of it, etc. Now, the first time or two I read his posts I posted "you're nuts" kinds of responses. I later regretted that because as someone said, Pat seems to be a very nice guy and DID help others on Tech posts though he had had disagreements with those same people here.

I disagreed with him about things but I think he should be allowed to voice his opinions, period. Even (maybe ESPECIALLY) if I disagree with them. Sure the owners/moderators of the board can impose any rules they want. I don't agree with personal attacks but frankly I think Pat is too intelligent to make many of those. Let's hear his voice and lets keep this friendly. You're ALL nuts, and ME TOO! Opinions are lik...ahem..."orifices". Everyone has them and they all stink. Let's not pretend some are more fragrant than others!

No problem with most of Pat's opinions. I just hated the cut and paste of other peoples view points, that takes no skill whatsoever.

Same here. I have seen, and been the object of, far more vitriolic attacks than Pat ever mustered. Many that come to mind attack my religious beliefs, and those of others. Not that that bothers me, nor would I ever complain to anyone about it; just pointing that out.

One of our moderators is a Christian. Attacks on Christians and Christianity seem to happen completely unfettered. It seems no one is bothered by them enough to complain, nor is our Christian moderator bothered by them enough to take action.

Our other moderator is not a Christian; his personna here is more of an avowed liberal. Not that the two positions are mutually exclusive (witness Superman), but there does seem to be a divide on PPOT along those lines. The last couple of "high profile" bannings on PPOT have been of staunch conservatives or libertarians, vehemently opposed to most liberal positions. Hmm...

What does this say? One conclusion that could be drawn from our admittedly small sample is that you are more likely to get banned by spouting conservative vitriol than by its liberal counterpart. Or maybe it says our liberal contributors are more likely to complain when their feelings get hurt. Or that maybe they are a little less tolerant of opposing viewpoints, and quicker to wield the big stick to cut them off. Maybe our dysfunctional little micrcosm of real life, known as PPOT, is closer than we think... I'm just sayin'...

what do you really think Jeff?

Let's see...two people have been banned in recent history. Mul (which I was involved in) and Pat (which I had zero involvement in). Yup...incontrovertible evidence that the non-christian mod is exerting his liberal god-hating bias.

I usually only lock or remove threads when it is reported (and even then I tend to fall on the side of letting it go unless it is an egregious post). I almost never take action without a complaint. Sorry to burst your bubble Jeff, but rants on either side just don't rise high enough on my care meter, and I don't sit and read every thread on the board. I don't get any compensation for being a mod, and don't think that I lean one way or the other wrt censoring. But you're free to have your opinion...

Oh, and btw I believe in a higher power.

The flying spagetti monster?

I believe that I will have another drink! :)

I vote that I could not care less. My ignore list went to zero when he was banned

Nope. I have reported anti-Christian posts to the moderators on at least two occasions when someone came right out and attacked christianity.
IIRC, one person said something like "an end to 2000 years of BS" when refering to christianity.
To the best of my knowledge, the moderators did nothing about it.
If anything was done, it was behind the scenes. In fact I can remember one of our beloved moderators joining in on the attack of Christian religions on a thread about the Pope confirming the Catholic church's stance of homosexuality as being a sin.

I can live by the rules here with no problem, as long as the same rules apply to everyone.

Rearden 03-14-2007 09:34 PM

sammy, you are not doing apples-apples. If somebody calls an American-born Catholic an Italian spy with no loyalty to America, then that would be equivalent.

Like so many things you believe Joe, whether its about Guantanomo Bay, heel'n'toe, Muslim extremists or F1, we can always rely on you for the good gen.

Can't heel and toe....can't articulate his position unless the safety is off.

Hmmmmmm - Girly Boy I reckon.

Did he ever talk about cars? The only PP nuts & bolts forum I visit is the R1100S.

If I was banned, I would at least feel very moved and perhaps proud to receive all this attention afterwords. I can not seem to remember there was this much debate after Mul left.

Glad you and your butt budy Stuart appreciate my posts.

I was wearing nomex and heel n toeing race cars around the track while you boys were still sucking on mommys tit, so you will have to come up with something better than that boys.

Instead of trying to divert attention, this is a about Pat so how about posting about the subject boys?

NICKG 03-15-2007 06:20 AM

and we wonder why there is no chance for world peace...religion is too much of a sore spot. Jews this, muslims that, christians blah blah blah.

We are really a microcosim od the larger issue.

At night clubs more like. So here we another example of your passing acquaintance with matters of fact. You have no idea of our relative ages Joe. You are making stuff up again.

If youre heading for Malaysia this weekend for F1 on Joe's advice, best find a place with a good TV.

As is so often the case, you are misinfomed, and blithey spreading your misinformation in your very transparent attempts to be an authority on everything .

Judgement call. One person's "attack" is another person's discussion. How someone's personal faith in Christ could be "attacked" by another person questioning the Catholic church's stance on homosexuality on the interwebs is a bit hard for me to fathom...

People "attack" all sorts of stuff here. I've seen plenty of stuff come out of your keyboard that I find *highly* offensive. But I don't edit a whit of it. Nor do I report it to anyone. I just consider the source and move along...
