I gotta say i am right excited about this! I have great visions of practicing my new skill on scrap metal and eventually doing my own front pan

Best to practice on heavier things first, it's a lot easier to control the heat and flow. It's good to get really familiar with your equipment on angle iron, etc. first. With sheetmetal at first, it's more like burn through, curse, turn down heat, burn through, curse...

My first "good" job after A LOT of practice laying beads on Home Depot stock.

Looks good !

How did you clean the parts ? It doesn't look like blasting. Did you use these 3M wheels? They worl nice to remove rust and paint, however, you can't get in these little corners.

Project has finally started '71 911T

Cheers

Excellent! My next-door neighbor is a pipefitter and a welder and this summer he has promised to teach me how to weld. Welding would be a great skill to have, especially with these older cars!

A couple of years back I did a brief welding course, covered Arc, Mig, Tig Oxyacetylene and gas cutting. Really got into it, was good fun, welding steel seemed pretty straight forward where as aluminium was a complete *****!

Oh and gas cutting gives you a surreal sense of power, cutting through inch thick steel off cuts like a knife through hot butter, very useful if you have a safe you need to crack!

Englebert, I used a combination of stripper and wire cup/grinder to get 90% of the paint off. After that, a MAPP torch works well with minimal smoke to get the rest.

I love those 3M flap disks!
