I suppose for a daily driver though, a KIA or Hyundai would be a better choice.

1/5 the price, better gas mileage, longer warranty, less insurance cost, much-much lower operating cost over the life of the vehicle.

never understood the Beeemer phenom.......

$6K in rework before it leaves the factory (yes, everyone of them), over rated on every level of comparisons, and every one that drives them thinks they belong in a F1 (at least they try to drive like one.....)

Not like any of this applies to Porsches...

I mean, afterall, Porsches are perfect...right?

That 335 is awesome...if you have the coin for it, I imagine it would be more than tolerable to drive every day.

26 yrs old, starts/runs every day. Looks good from 20 feet--not perfect, but will do in a pinch.

same gas mileage #s as the above Beeemer, costs the same to repair, won't depreciate any further than where it is....

Yeah, maybe I was comparing my lowly 928 to the Beeemer, but if I was looking to purchase a "daily", athe Kia or Hyundai would be the deal for the money.

01 TT 225 Quattro coupe, chipped to 255 hp. Gets solid 26 mpg average and 31 on freeway trips. $17K purchase with 30K miles. Runs like a champ and is loaded. This is a guilt free no hassle fun to drive daily driver. I've rolled up 14K miles w/o a single complaint.

buy plenty of extra oil and check it often, oh and plan on buying brake rotors frequently. BMWs are nice, but IMHO not all they are cracked up to be. Having owned a 2004 5 series for a couple of years before my wife wanted a sports car (the Cayman), I can say that BMW makes a helluva car. When you look at the entire package, and see how well those cars are thought out down to the last little detail, how well they are built (solid and absolutely rattle/buzz free), how quiet they are inside, how comfortable, and yet at the same time, how well they drive (very competent, tight handling, and they stop on a dime), it's hard not to come away very impressed. I miss the BMW and wish we could've kept it (in addition to the Cayman, of course).

That 335i should make an awesome daily driver.

here is the thing about BMW's

last week I took my dad's 93 525 with 110,000 miles on a road trip visiting friends at school for my spring break. We ended up driving 750 miles and a good portion of that time was spent going between 85-90 on the highway. During a lonely stretch i topped out at 110. My friends in the car had no idea how fast I was going. There is no drama, no noise, no complaints. The car just kept asking for more the whole trip, and we got 23mpg. Its almost 14 years old now, yet it still enjoys the road. Thats why you buy a BMW

+1 gprsh. I took my g/f's Civic on a road trip last month (I needed to take skis and I don't own a roof rack). While it's a great commuter car -- 35 mpg, easy to drive, easy to park, etc -- it HATES going over 70. Seriously -- you get noise, vibration, shuddering. At only 10 mph over the speed limit! That's what you get for buying a car made in a country where the national speed limit is 50 mph.

Contrast the last time we took my 528i. Five people, with a weekend's worth of luggage, doing 80 mph, with occasional bursts to 100. Everyone's comfy, no road noise, easy conversation. And I got out after 3 hours and felt like it was a 10 minute drive.

BMW 5ers -- there is no better road trippin' car.

Yup. Easy car to get a Big Speed ticket in because it goes fast with such ease and absolutely no drama whatsoever. If you're not paying attention, you'll be up at triple digit speeds before you realize it.

You have to drive one to understand.

This afternoon (sparked on by this thread) I went to take a 335 out for a test drive. They were out. I took out a 328 coupe with an auto. It was *still* a dream. It has something like 60 more my HP than my 2004 325. Everything is well thought out. Beautiful car.

I guess the original one was not easy and it was slow. The new one (3rd generation) works fine. You still have hard buttons for heat/AC and the essentials. Once you get used to iDrive it's no big deal. I only use it to control the radio/Sirius and the navigation.

Driving the 335 is amazing. Fast, nimble, connected, and balanced. The interior is beautiful in a spartan, functional interpretation of luxury. (Kind of like a 911). I bought the car for my wife because she loves to drive fast, but I've fallen in love with the car. It has the best steering I've ever seen.

My dad and I went and looked at them as well when he was out here visiting. He is thinking of replacing his 330ci with one.

For all the comments about "fast", oh I don't know, I didn't think it was that fast, but I guess my views are a bit jaded.

Back to the original poster, Vishnu made WRX stuff too and I never heard anything bad about them.

Well, it's faster than my '83 911 SC with a 3.6 Vram.

The BMW 335 goes 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. I believe that's just as fast as a '92 964 turbo.

I rented a Kia my last work trip. POS. Ponderous, slow, bordering on dangerous. And will be a rattle trap within 20K miles. If that works for you, then its a great daily driver...

I rented a Saturn Ion... speedo was in the middle...look where you want to go...I found myself drifting lanes a lot.

The iDrive in my wife's car was MADDENING!! I hated it with a passion. That darn thing controlled everything in the car, including the heat and air con. Heck, it even controlled the distribution of air to the various vents. The worst part about it was that every time you got in and started the car, it gave you a big disclaimer that you had to accept before you could operate the iDrive system. So, basically, you had to do about four different mouse-type movements before you could even listen to the radio.

Other than that freakin' system, the car is awesome.
