Collector car insurance
So, I've decided to insure the '85 911 we bought with collector car insurance, since it will not be used as a daily driver, and is in near perfect condition.
I've checked out Hagerty already, and they want $400 per year to insure for a value of $25,000. That's not bad at all, since our regular insurance company wanted $400 additional every six months, even if the car were only driven one day per month. What other collector car insurance companies are out there? Who's got good service, and good rates?

My research led me to Hagerty...I was with another company for a while, but they wouldn't agree to what I considered a fair value. So, I switched to Hagerty. (edit) I've never filed a claim, so can't comment on service.

Heard good things about Hagerty and am going to give them a try shortly.
Was going to do this with my car as Arizona has a new regulation for smog tests on classic cars. Joe

I have been with Hagerty for over a year and just filed a claim for a new windshield. No problem, they responded quickly and contacted the glass shop I selected and took care of everything. I'm a very satisfied customer!

There's been lots of discussion regarding insurance over at the 911 tech board: Classic car Insurance

How will the car be used? Almost every collector car insurer does not allow driving to work. Sneed is the exception. You will also want an "agreed to value" policy as opposed to "stated value".

I've had American Collectors Ins. for over a decade. Agreed value, parts value, have only had to file 1 minor claim, zero hassles. Call Maura Craven (she's really a great lady to work with). 2 911's and 3 Corvairs insured for right at 1K/year.
total.

Mine's with Leland West and I'm pretty happy with them. The premium is in the region of what your being quoted, but it's definitely worth it for an agreed valuation.

I use Hagerty, and I was VERY happy with them when I had an incident last summer. A construction sign fell over on my car. No big damage, but lots of small stuff. Still, the bill came out to $2800 to get it sorted out.
They were responsive and handled it in a straight forward manner. A word of warning, keep in mind that Hagerty sell collector car insurance, and unless I am mistaken, there are some pretty tight restrictions on what is covered. I don't think you are supposed to use the car for communting and such. In fact, I think you have to have another car registered for every adult in the house to show that it won't be a daily driver.
