Gore Refuses To Take Personal Energy Ethics Pledge
When asked to either put up or shut up....Gore declines the opportunity.
GEEZE, what a hypocrite!!! WASHINGTON, DC – Former Vice President Al Gore refused to take a “Personal Energy Ethics Pledge” today to consume no more energy than the average American household. The pledge was presented to Gore by Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, during today’s global warming hearing. Senator Inhofe showed Gore a film frame from “An Inconvenient Truth” where it asks viewers: “Are you ready to change the way you live?” Gore has been criticized for excessive home energy usage at his residence in Tennessee. His electricity usage is reportedly 20 times higher than the average American household. It has been reported that many of these so-called carbon offset projects would have been done anyway. Also, carbon offset projects such as planting trees can take decades or even a century to sequester the carbon emitted today. So energy usage today results in greenhouse gases remaining in the atmosphere for decades, even with the purchase of so-called carbon offsets. “There are hundreds of thousands of people who adore you and would follow your example by reducing their energy usage if you did. Don’t give us the run-around on carbon offsets or the gimmicks the wealthy do,” Senator Inhofe told Gore. “Are you willing to make a commitment here today by taking this pledge to consume no more energy for use in your residence than the average American household by one year from today?” Senator Inhofe asked. Senator Inhofe then presented Vice President Gore with the following "Personal Energy Ethics Pledge: As a believer: · that human-caused global warming is a moral, ethical, and spiritual issue affecting our survival; · that home energy use is a key component of overall energy use; · that reducing my fossil fuel-based home energy usage will lead to lower greenhouse gas emissions; and · that leaders on moral issues should lead by example; I pledge to consume no more energy for use in my residence than the average American household by March 21, 2008.” Gore refused to take the pledge. Why am I not surprised?
He wants to live in a mansion (actually owns several right now) and have us in mobile homes but paying to support him and his ideas. Typical liberal Democrat....

I think the "average american houshold" doesn't have a pool, an electric gate, and, I'm sure, a whole lot of networking.
Mabye Vice Presidents should do away with health devices and home security? Still...10K ft is big and 28k ft is very, very big.

Yeah, you're right John. Why should our elected officials live like the rest of us?
I mean, we are just being silly to think that Al Gore could possibly get by without 38,000 square feet of living space. ![]()

Gore is a snake oil salesman. First he creates the infirmity then he sells you the cure. Gore's real foot print is on the neck of American industry.
Wikipedia The intended goal of carbon offsets is to combat global warming. The appeal of becoming "carbon neutral" has contributed to the growth of voluntary offsets, which often are a more cost-effective alternative to reducing one's own fossil-fuel consumption. However, the actual amount of carbon reduction (if any) from an offset project is difficult to measure, largely unregulated, and vulnerable to misrepresentation. Gore is chairman of the firm and, presumably, draws an income or will make money as its investments prosper. In other words, he "buys" his "carbon offsets" from himself, through a transaction designed to boost his own investments and return a profit to himself. To be blunt, Gore doesn't buy "carbon offsets" through Generation Investment Management - he buys stocks. I know, he didn't create Global Warming anymore than he created the internet. He's just the front man.

So, how much electricity does Imhoff's household use? Did he take the pledge? Who among you would be able to take this pledge?
Does Gore's house have natural gas for heating? Or is it all electric. The chart shows avg. kwh of a household at less than 1000kwh per month. How many of us could commit to that? My Townhouse uses 3 times that, I always set the thermostat too hot or too cold for absolute comfort, but It's all electric and I don't have the climate of San Diego, so I have to use the heating and cooling, which is where most energy is used. I actually think if he can heat and cool a 28k house for the kwh shown he's doing amazingly well. But I'm in Texas, not Tenn. But then again, Im not out to "Gore" Gore.

I will be convinced when all politicians are driving around in tiny smart cars, living in zero carbon houses and taking cycling holidays.
Global Warming is the end result of hot air rising from the collection of buildings worldwide known as governments.

Global Warming is just another (very big) 'crisis' scam in a long line of others. Read the book "Vision of the Annointed" by Thomas Sowell and it will explain the scam clearly. The left manufactures a crisis, creates study groups to give $ to their cronies, taxes everyone to pay for it all, pockets mucho for themselves and never solves the supposed crisis, and further restricts our rights in the process. Sad thing is that "WE", the American Sheeple, fall for it every time. Even if we didn't it seems we are powerless to stop them as we never will get together and vote them out.
Today's politicians are so arrogant they can be hypocritical in the open and never look back. I despise them all.

I'm not out to gore Gore. I am not aware of anyone who is more vocal and impassioned than Gore regarding the potential prospect of global warming.
If Gore believes that the entire planet is in grave danger because of human produced carbon dioxide, is it unreasonable to imagine that the mouthpiece for the movement should curb his production of CO2? Only a Gore apologist might fail to see the most obvious. Best, Kurt |

No, not irrelevant. Who can commit to using under 1000 KWH per month. as this pledge asks.
Imhoff is grandstanding, if he doesn't sign it, he's a hypocrite.

I agree Kurt, even when it's "green" energy.
But the point of the thread title was the the former VPOYUS not signing "I pledge to consume no more energy for use in my residence than the average American household"-another familiar line item snuck in. That kind of negates the fact that he is the former VPOUS, and is very disrespectful to the ofiice. $1200/mo peak usage is probably on the low side for a 10kft house. Dominos Farms used to have a $1million/day usage for it's Christmas light show- in the 80's. I had a $400 gas bill in a 2400ft house after turning it up to 65degrees one winter, and I'm sure others have had similar experiences. Of course if Bushies want to complain about the high price of energy these days....
