Congrats! Now you have a license to learn!

Do not push it until you have a fair number of hours in ACTUAL IFR.

If you ever fly down to DVT (Deer Valley) let me know!

Oh yea... personal minimums are way high and staying that way for a while!

Been to dear valley at least 5 times this year. I will PM next time i head down.

I nailed the single engine ILS so well that it looked like the HSI and airspeed indicator were broken and frozen in place.

Man, I am floating on air after that flight.. ..

What Joe said. Congrats and fly safely! Hopefully I'll run into you one of these days (not literally!)

Just wait until the first time you're in real actual by yourself and hear that "cleared for approach". It's a real rush.

Actually, I think the IFR is a license to scare, the license to learn was the private pilot LOL and the commercial is the license to get paid to scare the hell out of others!
But on a serious note.. congrates!!! the IFR is essential,, but personal minimums should always be much higher than what's legal.. good luck!!

Jeff,

Then the next rush is breaking out at mins and seeing the runway in front of you. Worth all the time and work it took to get the rating.

Very cool

I've just started reading about starting lessons, the Piper looks like a lot more fun than the Cessna's that I'd be learning on.

Chris,

Pipers fly like a truck (at least the smaller single engine versions) when compared to the Cessna's.

Just one mans feelings towards them. I have a lot of flight time in either of them. The Piper is better than walking, but if I have a choice will take the Cessna every time. Course a Beechcraft Bonanza trumps all of them.

i know what you guys mean.... went over to OXR in oxnard and shot the ILS from 4000' to 800ft in actual. (admittedly It was still kind of broken and with my instructor) that was about a month ago..
That’s when i knew this rating was in the bag.

I never had the leans so bad... but it was fun.

Taking off from a dark crappy existence under gray cloud cover only to burst out on top into sunny sky’s is something I hope i never get tired of.

Pipers fly like trucks but the seminole can take a beating... student overspeeding flaps\gear.. slaming 3800lbs into the ground for a short field..
I bet the one i fly around in spends at least 15% of its life single engine with the one remaining left at full power!

Congratulations!!

I can tell you that after 20 years and more than 12,000 hours, I still never tire of the sensation of busting out of the gloom into the clear blue skies or star filled nights.

Oxnard is a great one for that. Another good one with a relatively simple missed approach procedure that you'll see minimums at a lot is Santa Maria - great place to practice in real IMC. Another good thing is you'll usually be on top for the start of the approach and completion of the missed, but you dive into it on the approach and it's soup all the way down. I've even had to miss that one a few times for real because the fog gets so dense there.

Good luck! I love the hangar talk on here - it's motivating me to get my lazy butt over to the FBO and get current again!

Congrats! I have no idea what the heck goes into all that but its still cool that you have 3 dimensions to work with as opposed to 2!

Flying on instruments increases your work load by 4-5 times.

What it does is allows you to continue your flight when the weather starts coming down, as happens often.

congrats! what joe said..i gradually lowered my own personal minimums 15 years ago when i got mine. fwiw, i flew professionally for years and decided to quit from part 135 on-call burnout, but am returning to my roots to flight instruct. in fact, in a couple of days this pilot with thousands of hours to his name is going to touch a yoke for the first time in 3.5 years..in a c-150..and i have butterflies! i know i'm gonna be ham-fisted..feel like a beginner all over again. i've been reading and reviewing like crazy. it's amazing how much one forgets. i'll get a instrument proficiency check after i finish the flight review and get a few hours flying some visual approaches by myself just to get the feel, communications and procedures back. i earned a gold seal on my cfi doing primarily instrument ratings a decade ago.

congrats! it's a great feeling!
