That's pretty impressive stuff, they did a lot of work to avoid inprisonment, though their building skills are much better than their growing skills LOL.
Tennessee should be collecting taxes from the sales.

Wonder how they were caught.
I've heard of Electric company audits, heat imaging and snitching.

Looks like the John Paul's operation. He was the former 935 driver. He's now in the big house.

Way too many people were need for construction, that was the downfall I'm sure. You can keep a couple guys happy and quiet, but not a labor force.

exactly... as impressive as that is, it is much more cost effective to run several less extensive "light shows". These guys probably at best covered their initial investment before it got busted.

My Uncle tells the story of a house he was interested in - for a while - in California.
It was quite a nice looking place by all accounts built nestled in the woods on the side of a hill. It was when he noticed odd things that he decided to take a closer look. Odd things like every room in the house had an intercom, a long corridor in the basement that only went to a laundry closet, and finding a chain - like you get on a front door - fitted to the INSIDE of the laundry closet door. It turned out to be a similar situation. The inside of the laundry closet had a fake panel that opened up into a large room dug back into the hillside fitted out with shelving racks & fluorescent lights, and a small 'escape tunnel' that led back up to another kick-out panel in the closet under the kitchen sink. It might have been this and the thought that you might get some undesirable knocking on your door in the middle of the night that put him off. The fact that the city had no record of a house on the property might also have had something to do with it.

Aer,
Have some good friends (went to school with them) who live North of San Fran in the hills. Never visited them but we run into each other around the country while flying. A while back I got an email from one of them saying that he had just bought a nice Twin Beech airplane. These are worth $250k in the condition his was so I asked him what in the world had he done, won the lotto or ??? He finally fessed up that for about 10 years after school that these two had been growing pot in the hills in Northern California. They had banked their money and retired, at about 40 years old and were now just enjoying life. One of them now has a legitimate business and the other is just enjoying the beach and flying now. It could very well have been a house like this that my friends had for growing their crop. Understand that there are a lot of people like them in this situation in this area.

I looked at a fixer-upper house a few months back. Found a small door in the basement leading to what was obviously a former grow room.
Still had some loose stems and seeds in the dusty corners. You'd think you would want to clean it up better than that before planting a "For Sale" sign in the yard. |

Seems like it's a vogue. Here's a similar (though not as extensive) setup from the San Diego UT

I'm in the wrong business. Maybe they give you all those federal tax breaks on solar panels so they can keep track of this stuff. ![]()
