No pics of the choppers?

There is a much smaller one on display at a local canoe rental place and it is one mean looking critter. Have heard stories of them live for quite some time out of water.

Only if they get their mouth around some part of your body

Had them in Lake Conroe, gators too. I remember when an alligator got stuck in one of the spillway gates on the dam. Took them a while to figure that one out

Yes I have witnessed a friend catch one it was about two feet long and he threw it in a bucket behind his house with not much water in it. The stuborn thing lived for three days when he remembered it and it was still very much alive so he took it back to the lake out by Fort Riely Kansas and it took off like the day he caught it. Nice catch

These guys were bow hunting gars...quite popular since gars stay near the surface.

FWIW, the OK record for one caught on a rod and reel is 184 lbs. Pretty rare they ever attack humans although they do go after other fish and waterfowl.

Anybody ever go hand grabbin' catfish?

caught an alligator gar in an arkansas reservoir years ago on all things a damn treble hook..you can imagine what a pain it would be to try and save the lure or the fish. one shot from a .45 and i was ready for another lure and there n-1 alligator gar remaining in said reservoir..

Grew up in the Ozarks and fished Table Rock lake as a kid. Its about 75 miles East of Broken Bow lake above. There are fish in that lake that are as big as a VW Beetle.

Was told this for years and thought it was pure BS then one day we were heading back to the dock saw something bobbing on the surface. The fish was longer than our boat and about half as wide. It had died and was floating belly up on the surface. Never forget it...

We paddled the San Jacinto river (south of lake conroe, TX) when I was in High School. A alligator gar bumped our canoe that was almost as long as the canoe. I thought is was a big friggin alligator till his tail came up.
