Cho Seung-Hui - ‘This didn't have to happen.’

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/

A court in 2005 declared this guy with a "mental illness". He spent some time in a mental hospital some time after that.
He was also stalking several women who complains and he was given some type of restraining order - the cops knew about him.

Yet, 2 weeks ago he walked into a gun shop and purchased the guns he used to murder 32 people.

The gun "system" in this country is a big joke. We have a lot to worry about.
I'm all for the right to bear arms, but this is ridiculous. Why was this killer allowed to purchase fire arms ???
The parents of 32 dead college students and professors would sure as hell like to know!

Furthermore, the media is doing a great disservice by posting all this garbage in the package he sent to NBC. They should destroy it. Is it all about the ratings? How pathetic! Don't give the killer of 32 people a national voice. don't make him into a hero for others. It's crazy.

Bury him in an unmarked grave, far from rest of the world. Get him off the front page and relegate him to the trashbin of history. To do otherwise enables others of the same ilk.

Why oh why, given all the warning signs was this not stopped? All these privacy laws hurt us all in this case.

Yep, the ********* should have been barred from purchasing a firearm... but there's something in that system that didn't work.

There are cracks in any system. It would be interesting to find out how he fell through one. On the form required to purchase a firearm in Va. is a question about mental illness history. The state Police data base should have had him registered.
I buy on average a gun a year, some for me, some as gifts (my son hunts and can't afford good guns So I gift them) I have been turned down a couple of times for what ever reason. The shop just re-submits the request and it goes through.
We don't need new gun laws, we just need for the ones in place to work correctly.

All those people thought he was nuts, why wasn't he in a center for help?

Has anyone heard from the parents yet? Didn't they have ANY clue this guy was so ****ed up?

The guy's parents were the ones who committed him to a psych hospital in 2005 because they thought he was suicidal at the time. So the parents knew. The parents are apparently in hiding now.

The Parents helped him become fked up....

1. He is a foreigner from a different culture..so he has a had time adjusting to European ways

2. He comes from a hard working family of limited means..which means the family is about getting ahead and not feely touchy subjects

3. My bet is with the '"Debauchery" comments he comes from a Religious family.

4. This Cho guy was COMPLETELY ISOLATED and ALEINATED, with limited social skills, in other words comepletely dysfunctional socially.

I'm not trying to let him off the hook by anymeans, but the more you can understand these guys situations the more aware you become of the next guy that comes along exhibiting the same problems.

Its too bad he killed himself...would've better if he could've been arrested and sent off to get plenty of "attention" in prison

tabs, I think your wrong...

Centreville isn't "limted means" it's about 15 miles from here... not a bad place... he isolated himeself.

Korean media around here reports that the family is in the hospital for attempted suicide ... but that's been disproved... i wonder why the media hasn't tracked them down yet...

At the expence of the taxpayers, and to have it all over the news to keep all the hurt flowing right at the surface, for years to come. No he did the right thing.
They should just chuck his body in the desert somewhere and let the vultures dispose of the body.

This freaken moron ALONE is solely at fault...... not law enforcement, his family, the university, gun laws, guns, friends (or lack thereof), teachers or anything or onyone else.

Why the news is attempting to assign blame to everyone just infuriates me. WTF is wrong with people these days? This 23 year old freaking lunatic decided to murder a bunch of people. There is nothing that society can do to prevent someone bent on going postal from doing so. This freak could have done this with a bomb, a knife, an axe, a car on the school sidewalks etc etc.

This trajedy is sickening enough without having to listen to all the effing finger pointing blame assigners.

Good post Tim!

Our society has become obsessed with placing blame rather that taking responsibility.

Hmm, foreign culture not used to Western ways, hardworking, non-touchy feely family, religous and limited social skills.

You've just described a good percentage of the Asian immigrant population in the US, yet 99.999999999999% of them don't go on mass murder sprees.

I have read the guy's "plays".... in no way is this guy a fresh off the boat kid...he's well versed in american culture.... while he simultaneously hated and embraced it.

It is easy to identify the "risk" in retrospect in this individual. However, there are enormous numbers of individuals like this out there that never commit acts like this. If you tried to commit everyone that fit this pattern, you'd have the ACLU and every "humanitarian" organization decrying the wrongful abuse of their "rights".
It was not long ago that these individuals were all institutionalized. Unfortunately, the availability of anti-psychotic drugs and the lack of health care funds resulted in closure of these asylums and release to the "street" of the patients. That is one of the main reasons we have the chronic homeless problem we have. It is no longer "politically" correct.

The problem with these things is there is hundreds of other people in exactly the same situation as this guy was in. But they won't pull the trigger.

How many people rights will you have to supress to be safe?
