A Question for you Gun Guys

My wife's 32 caliber "Seacamp" is a great gun.
My question is, Its difficult for her to pull the slide back to put a round in the chamber. Can a gunsmith loosen it up a bit?

Tweaking the main spring will effect the guns operation, and not for the better.

It is a double action ... just have one in the chamber at all times ... problem solved

Can be loosen, but will not recommend to do that either, unless there is some major contact between surfaces (which a couple of hundred rounds will fix)

Very few rounds have been fired. i guess just take the wife to the range a fire off a bunch of rounds should loosen it up a bit.

How many rounds have been through the gun? If less than 200 or so then take it out and shoot it. Yes, .32 auto shells are not cheap, but if you look at gunshows or www.cheaperthandirt.com you can find it at a more reasonable price.

Be careful how you hold the gun when firing. If you place it too far down the slide can come back and bite your hand.

Some small auto's can be used with an extended magazine that gives you a bit more to grab onto. Might look into it if its small for your hand.

If you ever come by Las Vegas with the gun I can take a look ...

Just put some more rounds thru the gun, most of the problems will go away; I will recommend 25 rounds, take apart, clean, LITTLE oil, 50 rounds, take apart, clean, LITTLE oil, 25 rounds, take apart, clean, NORMAL oil. Use some teflon based oil.

Is their any instructions on taking this gun apart?

My wife has the same problem. Some women seem to have very poor grip and forearm strength. I doubt that firing more rounds will make a huge difference. Two solutions come to mind. The first is to get her some weights for forearm/grip strengthening and to practice a lot with the gun to improve technique (this did not help my wife). The second is to replace the auto with a revolver.

Weights are a good recommendation. 16 oz curls while bringing you fresh beers are a start or using her hands to work with something that might raise to the occasion comes to mind. Builds muscles you know... or you can tell her that!

I've never handled a Seecamp, but assuming it is a typical semi-auto design, you cannot make the recoil spring any lighter, and that spring is what is resisting your wife's attempt to cycle (pull back) the slide.

Three solutions. (1) Find a grip and technique that allows her to do it, safely. Usually people grip the slide from the rear (meaning palm of hand is behind the rear of the slide) and pull back. Try gripping from the front (palm of hand is over the front sight) and pushing forward. We are often stronger when pushing than when pulling. But beware, if that method means a part of the body is in front of the muzzle, it is not safe. Especially if your wife can't keep her finger off the trigger. Blowing off her wrist would be bad. (2) Carry the gun with a round chambered, which I would think she should do anyway. No need to cycle the slide to fire the first or each successive shot. Not sure about reloading, don't know the Seecamp. (3) Get a different gun that she can operate.

The old Walther PP series is hard to beat. Yes its another 3/4 inch longer or so but sure a lot more user friendly.
