Seen Live Music Lately?

What's a good concert or club show you've seen lately? What's a good one you're going to see soon? Some good tours you'd recommend catching this summer? Favorite local clubs, rock or jazz or whatever?

I'm thinking about getting back to seeing live music, after something like 100 years off.

My return to concert-going is 6/30, Neko Case.

In the past couple of years, I have seen Aerosmith, Velvet Revolver, Beach Boys, Four Tops, Lenny Kravitz, R.E.M., the Monkees, the Bangles and a few others, many when Disney was opening the new park.

Saw the Undying Tour last Friday night. With August Burns Red, Becoming The Archetype, ZAO, Spoken and Demon Hunter. Not my type of music at all, but a co-worker wanted to go and I figured I could deal with it for one night. Way too loud, hot, smelly and I don't like mosh pits. I should'a brought ear plugs.

Going to take my son to his first concert at the Konocti Harbor. Opening is Jason Mraz and the main draw is Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20 and Santana's "Smooth" fame). This is the first concert I've ever been to where food is included in the ticket price (all you can eat BBQ - salmon, rib-eye plus pasta!).

I am taking my son to his 1st concert this fall when the Family Values tour comes through Florida. I dont think food is included in the ticket price but you can get 1/2 off a body piercing or tatto with admission.

I see alot of shows...mostly in smaller venues. A couple of good ones that come to mind:
The Black Keys
My Morning Jacket
Social Distortion (I lost count of how many times I've seen them)
Cracker

And I have tickets to see Built To Spill

Last live music was the James Montgomery Blues Band, outside in Sunapee Harbor. 25 people in the crowd! That's the way to see good blues, he still plays great harmonica.

Man, I'd love to see Social Distortion! Needless to say, no one interesting comes to north Alabama...

The last two groups I've seen were Big Head Todd and the Monsters and The Cult. Both were great.

I think the last one I saw was the Mama's Boys (local act). I can't really stomach the idea of going to a concert anymore for $50-$100 a ticket to watch 'em on television 'cause you're so far away in a stadium with 80,000 other people. No thanks. Give me an intimate club venue or nothin'.

I saw VH Labor Day Weekend '04 at the Borgata in Atlantic City. It was one of the best concerts I had ever seen and Eddie looked fine. I was right up front for it.

rick..i know you and i share a huge love for eddie..but i was on row 2 myself..and he looked to be showing the years of alcohol abuse in a really big way. someone posted a pic of him over in ot a while back and it seemed to support what i saw. i know papparazi are notorious for either trying to get 'rough looking' shots of stars and pop icons, even 'manufacturing' them when they can't quite get what they're looking for. not sure how to account for the differences in what you and i saw. doesn't change the fact though for me that eddie will always be 'the man'..

We just saw the Dave Brubeck Quartet at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, MI last month. It's hard to believe Dave is 85, he plays piano as well as he ever did and the concert was incredible!

art! i'm a huge brubeck fan! didn't know he was still playing live..wow. there's a song he wrote and recorded back in the 50's during one o his european tours in poland. wish i could remember the name..i'll think about it over the day. i recall that the name means 'thank you' in polish if i'm not mistaken. i had it on my smithsonian '300 years of the piano' dvd (but it got stolen last xmas when my house was robbed, damnit) did you know that i play jazz piano, too??
