They do that here areound Seattle. Or they were, at least.
It's something that I can sort of agree with, too. Many accidents caused by morons cutting off big trucks. Seen it happen.

if it was strictly a safety issue i would applaud it, but this seems to be just more good old revenue enhancement, i can almost see the state licking its lips in anticipation.
"The Kansas Highway Patrol last week began spying on motorists from privately owned big rig trucks. As part of a new, federally funded effort, a state trooper sits in the passenger seat of each truck and operates a set of five video cameras and a radar gun to identify motorists to ticket. The trooper will then contact a patrol car hidden nearby to issue the citation. The program is expected to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in ticket revenue over the next six weeks." i don't see anything mentioned about safety here. |

Maybe a few letters to Yellow Transportation are in order. Anyone who does any amount of shipping with them may want to let them know you are looking for another carrier.

I am sure that will make them popular in the trucking community as well. I wish L.E. would run actual safety campaigns instead of these revenue enhancement programs.

And I suppose the truck with the trooper will dive into the passing lane of the hill just ahead of you to get around another truck and then die down to about 40 mph in a 65 mph zone keeping pace with the truck it's trying to pass.
The truck will then speed up down the hill giving you only a short distance at high speeds to get in front of it to avoid the same scenario over and over again. Sounds great!

I don't think the idea is for the truck to be moving. I think they park it on the side of the road or in a spot adjacent that doesn't look as conspicuous.
Kansas isn't a place to speed. State Trooper Cars are all different colors: white, black, brown, pink, you name it. And no light bars. I even saw a brand new maroon Charger that was a KS state trooper car.

Pennsylvania uses enough unmarked cars, (red impala, burgundy chevy suburban, plain white dodge?) These vehicles would NEVER attract your attention! Using trucks is down right unamerican! ;-)
