Patriot Day July 7, 2007.

This idea was thrown around a week ago with mixed reactions. So, let us try again. How about a national day of reverse consumption aimed at saving energy.

A day when we all (but emergencies and essentials) do not drive, do not go to work and do not buy anything. A day when we just turn off the TV, radio, and computers - as much power as we can and just go outside (or stay inside). Get together with friends, family, neighbors, or no one. A day when we turn off as much as possible. A day to save. A day to show the world that we can push back from the table and we don't need to be busting at the seams.

We can do this! Think of the glory! Think of the statement! Non-partisnship! Non-anything!


Now to pick a date.

July 7, 2007. Perfect number. Who is with me? I’m fix’n to start a national push for this!

We can start this - this site is a birthplace of great things. This place has folks from various walks of life. Think if we just get together - maybe just 10% to 15% of us and work all angles, all the other forums and e-mail all our contacts and talk it up with all the folks we work with or come into contact with, and lets not forget our family and friends and our clubs and our Churches. This could and would gain momentum!

We can be part of something greater than ourselves by doing nothing more than...well nothing! What a concept!

We must start by doing something to get to do nothing!

Now is our time to make a stand. Liberals, Conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, Centrists and Green Party, heck even the labor unions and the civil right activists as well as all Americans now and even those wanting to be Americans.

This can be our day. Our Day to make a statement from the people, for the people and by the people!

FWIW there's a "Patriot's Day" (Massachusetts state holiday) celebrated in early April. It's the day they run the Boston Marathon every year.

I do like the idea though. Adbusters tried something a couple years back called "Buy Nothing Day". Some people still practice it.

Too much of a negative impact on the economy. What purpose would it serve, people will just go out and buy everything tomorrow, cause a traffic jam.

At least for me, my family and most of my friends, 7/707 is completely out to not spend anything.. that's going to be my wedding day and it's out of state. Still a good idea though.

Yes, but you have to buy beer the day before and put it on ice as your refigerator will be unplugged. Also, you will not be flushing the toilet that day so you might want to sprinkle your favorite tree in the backyard. Consider that last one a happy marriage tip.

No net effect on the economy. People simply buy extra on the day before, or restock on the day after.

Besides... independence day is that week. People will be vacationing, traveling, etc. I'm sure the economy will manage without a few Pelicans.
