Basic air compressor advice

I would like to buy a basic air compressor for my garage. I only want it to put air in car tires. I have no need for it to power tools.

I do not want to use the compressor in the trunk of my 911. I have heard that they are very slow & I don't want to get it out everytime I want to put air in tires, especially in the winter when the 911 is covered up.

What brands/models do you recommend?

What do you think of this one? http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?cat=Compressors+%26+Air+Tools&pid=00915239000&vertical=TOOL&subcat=Air+Compressors+%26+Inflators&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes

Is it good enough for my needs?

What specs should I look for? I know absolutely nothing about compressors.

Thanks for your help.

I have one of these;

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?cat=Compressors+%26+Air+Tools&pid=00915310000&vertical=TOOL&subcat=Air+Compressors+%26+Inflators&BV_SessionID=@@@@0209849633.1177553149@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccekaddkkhklmmecefecemldffidfko.0

Like you, I only wanted one to fill tires. It works great- and I got it on special so it was only $100.

For the few extra bucks, I'd probably 'upgrade' to the one I got. Hopefully someone else will chime in...

Paul.

do a couple of searches. There are a couple of really extensive threads about what to look for in a compressor.

Thanks. I purposely did not use the search function because the compressor postings I have read all dealt with much larger compressors (for tools) than I need.

Thanks Steve for the links. I will check them out.

What I don't want to do is get a compressor to fill tires & find that it is too cheap/slow/loud or that isn't even powerful enough to fill tires.

If you are just filling tires, get a foot pump with a dial guage.
I bet you could find a decent one for under $20.

Your link and Paul's below yours will work great...I have a similar model that I've owned for almost a decade

For a few bucks more I'd spring for the 12 gal model (as opposed to 3). You'll get alot more use out of it for the small increase in $$$. http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?cat=Compressors+%26+Air+Tools&pid=00916640000&vertical=TOOL&subcat=Air+Compressors+%26+Inflators&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes
