Do I need a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton?

The boat is 3694lbs + trailer (another 700 lbs I'd guess).

I could care less what type of truck it is, they are all junk compared to german engineered vehicles. BTW, my buddy pulls his 18' Maxum bowrider with a V6 X5. It does a standup job.

Thanks for the offer speeder but there are so many trucks down here for sale the trip wouldn't make it worth the trip.

I doubt I will go with a deisel just because of the additional noise.

Sounds like a 3/4 ton is the way to go.

You could easily pull that with the new (not "Classic") Silverado. Take a look at one--plus the 5.3 gets 22 mpg highway. If it's not your thing--that's okay.

Ok, the truck that I ordered (Ford Explorer Sport Trac with a V8) probably couldn't handle the weight of all that granite, and I don't really have a need to haul that type of stuff...

...but man, that trailer is awesome. I want one!

heres a rule of thumb. tow a 38 ft toy hauler w/a 1 ton chev 4x4 long bed crew cab duallie, mtr built to hilt. toy hauler filled w/race car or quads etc. plan on going 85mph.................PERIOD!

3/4 ton 4 x4 surburban w/454 built to the hilt. 26 ft cabin cruiser w/big block and 80 gals fuel in it. plan on 75-85mph...........period!

then add side winds, head winds, road conditions, traffic,semis passing you(fuel trucks cut air and will open yer eyes) etc. and you will fast realize as in racing there is NO SUBSTITUTE FOR CUBIC INCHES!

bigger is better unless you want to kill the vehicle going up the grapevine in calif, rocky mtns, etc.

1/2 tons are fine for about 18-20 ft boats. anything bigger your stroking your self.

buddy w/38 ft toy hauler has 3/4 ton ferd 4x4 diezkal w/all the goodies and cant tow his 36 ft toy hauler worth crap!

now you know why my 1 ton doolie from hell towed it last time. he was TOO CHEAP to buy 1 ton and he is paying for that mistake in spades now!

Diesels are the best for towing, period. Anyone with 3 brain cells still firing knows it. When was the last time you saw a semi or a train running on gasoline?

You'd be spending a dollar a mile towing the genius way mentioned above. Diesels are about double the efficiency under load and make more torque w/o breaking a sweat.

EDIT: Not saying that you cannot tow a boat w/ a gas truck, or a car for that matter. But for the serious towing that CK is referring to above, no one with a clue uses gas engines.
