California Gas Prices $$$$$

Took the turbo to the pump and it was $3.54 a gallon for 91 octane at the 15 Fry and Summit in Rancho Cucamonga yesterday. I have this overwhelming feeling that we are being screwed without reach around. Reason:

Last year right before the election the gas prices dropped to ~$220/gal crude prices were about the same as now. (So how did this happen if supply and demand were the factor) Nov. 8
(right after the election) prices started there ascending curve skyward and have been increasing by about 8 cents a week ever since.

Crude oil prices have been steady, but not proportionate to gas prices. Meaning when crude was 62 dollars a barrel last year gas was $2.25 OK. So we hear the excuse of refinery maintenance and special blends..well the special blends don't happen usually until about now for the summer. so why is the gas so high....

Because they fricken can!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear these idiots tell me its the market forking price???

The market price is what ever they can get for it....what your willing to pay! Its not all supply and demand..I'm surprised there not charging 8 dollars a gallon I would have to buy 6 gallons a day regardless or move in the ghetto in LA closer to work.

So I am a good little sheep and just buy it because I don't have a forking horse.

I am a capitalist...there is no real competition here and maybe just maybe some..very few...commodities need some regulation.

Just a thought

But....but.....just a month or so ago the pundits were telling us not to worry about $3.00 a gallon gas. I suppose they might have meant was: "$3.00 a gallon will be just a fond memory by Summer."

Facts can always be twisted to prove the user's point.

Expect it to go higher after todays refinery utilization numbers were down, as were inventories of gasoline. Inventories of oil are high though. Might be a good time to buy some XOM stock. Imagine yourself as Yosemite Sam at the end of a Bugs Bunny cartoon, "If you can't beat'em, join 'em."

Buy as many stocks in oil & gas producers, equipment suppliers and refineries as you can. I am.

A number of people here have told us there is no connection. Gas prices have nothing to do with recent record-breaking oil company profits. And it is pure coincidence that our "president" is an oil baron.

No connection whatsoever. No connection between politics and money and oil companies. Just coincidence.

Must be a California thing. Bush kept dropping the price here well after the election and he didn't raise them until late January? Strange.

Gas in Cali will be over $4/gal come Summer - probably more like $4.39/gal for 91. Hello $110 weekly fill ups...

Any time there's talk about attacking Iran, guess what happens to the price of crude? Uhh, that's politics.

As for buying stock in oil and gas producers, would I get a discount on a fill up if I did?

911pcars,

Everytime we talk about beating on Iran, world crube prices hiccup for a week and come back down...Like I said look at the price of CRUDE...It has its spikes but has been relatively stable..The by product gasoline has skyrocketed way out of proportion. Anyway- The reason is a lack of operating refineries or blend changes?????? Personally I believe the price is dictated by how loud you scream at the pumps. The baseline value is about $2.30 a gallon the rest is pure profit..because they can...and because we will buy it....So its the market price...! period...look at there earning statements...I just hope someday the game reverses and the CEO of Exxon needs a heart by-pass and the doctor says payback time..for you its a billion dollars Phuquer..But that wont happen.. theres competition among doctors and hospitals...My monthly gas bill has increased from about $300 to $900 a month and this is monies that I have earned paid taxes and is net income..all of you would feel a delta of 6 bills a month...thats why I'm whinning..

I know (hope) that was meant tongue n cheek. But I wonder, what the average price that everyone paid for their P-Car would be. Hell mine was cheaper that a new Kia. Yes the maintenance can get expensive, unless you do it yourself, but ownership differently is not exclusive.

I know plenty of poorer people with domestic or Japanese cars that cost more than my Porsches ever did. Oh, and what exactly are working people? I work. But I guess I have too much money to be considered working people. Sort of like working families. You only get that title if you fall into a politician's constituency.

Gogar,

Did you read the article? Gas prices around the world are directly relative to government taxation. So what your stating is: Because a European country adds 5 dollars in tax to a gallon of gas and it costs 8 dollars. Buying it in the US for $3.50 is low or a good deal??? Am I understanding you correctly?

Livi, Your absoluetly correct...Gas has been low for a long time..do you not like that...? Just wondering....I dont mind paying more proportinately to the cost of a barrel of crude. But like I said the price is not relative...

Wiz - you're right.
I have to explain to people all the time who come out with the "...but you've got two Porsches..." line. My 911 cost roughly 20K, probably cheaper than 70% of the cars in the company parking lot. In 10 years time it will be worth significantly more than 95% of the cars currently in the parking lot. The 944 cost me less than $1400 (and a lot of sweat, grease, and late nights), I bet you'd struggle to find another car in the parking lot that was cheaper than that.
Now who do you think has disposable income?

Livi, I'm Sorry.

I didnt realize you lived in Sweden...So how much is a litre there? Since you live in a socialist country I assume its cheaper than $3.50 a LITRE right? Your getting such a good deal and have a right to correct me because my expensive gas is cheaper than your socialist gas.

I stand corrected...
