What to do in Puerto Rico?
Looking at a long weekend beach vacation to Puerto Rico. (No passport needed) Are there any 'can't miss' things to do while there? It'll be my SO, her two kids (7/11), and myself.

Is that why the flights and hotel are so inexpensive? No one wants to be there?

Aricebo is very cool. Old San Juan, ok and west coast is nice. But, overall, too 2nd worldish and very littered thoughout.

I'm actually here with my wife right now, staying at the Intercontinental in San Juan. Playing some in the casino, sitting at the beach and pool and eating some good food.
Il Mulino is a very good northern italian restaurant in Ritz Carlton, actually not too expensive and headed there tonight. Will wash everything down with a little grappa. Life is good. Headed to Miami for a wedding this weekend and just wanted something convenient and sunny. No worse than Miami. Last edited by widgeon13; 05-16-2007 at 12:36 PM.. |

Old San Juan, the forts, restaurants and pubs. Arecibo's observatory, Camuy Cave System, miles of beautiful beaches, casinos if that's your thing. Tons of great food, great rums, good local beer.
If you like golf there are some awesome courses around. If you like deep sea fishing you can charter a boat and have a great time (if you are interested a friend runs a charter business there). If you are into surfing, Rincon amongst other are world known surf spots. If you need recomendations for restaurants or the like, PM or write to me. Try to get hold of a "Que Pasa" magazine when you get in which lists most restaurants. Like in any other "medium to large" population area be careful about hanging around after hours. Tons of history on the island. Going through the forts in old San Juan is a time warp.

Great! Thanks for the info. We'll make the final decision tonight, but right now we are looking at the Rincon Beach Resort.

Go to the fort. North side. 2nd street. 3rd door, it's blue. Bring $350 US. No more, no less. Knock 2x's, count to 3, knock 4 x's, count to 3, knock once. Tell them "el gringo con estómago monos" sent you. Tell them you only have 40 minutes and a "friend" is coming to pick you up. Do NOT let them know you are alone. Tell no one you went.
Enjoy!

We have a few PR's that work for us. Every time they go back home, I ask for a bottle of rum, and tell them to knock on Rico's door for me. The latter took an explanation of why they are here in the US. No riches in the port.
Old thread, missed it the first go round.

I have been to PR many many times and while Viejo San Juan has its attraction I found the southern shore more appealing. Particularly the island Caja De Los Muertos. It's been awhile but it makes for a nice day trip and it's a short ferry trip from Ponce. Also the drive from the north shore to the south is a very nice one.
