The only V-8 your Porsche will ever need
Well, unless you've got a 928 or Cayenne.
If you want to put a V-8 into a 914, 912, or 911.... This would probably be a sweet deal. http://www.h1v8.com/page/page/1562068.htm engine weighs 200 pounds, 2.8L V-8, 400hp, mates to a 6speed sequential transmission, 10,000 rpm. based on the Hayabusa engine. SPECIFICATIONS: 75 degree odd fire V8 2.8 LITER, 170 cu. in. displacement 84mm Bore X 63mm Stroke 4 cams, 32 valves via internal silent chain 530mm wide x 485mm long x 530mm high 400HP @ 10,000 rpm with stock street cams 245 ft-lbs torque @ 7500 rpm 200 lbs engine weight Billet nitrided steel 180 degree crank 4340 Carrillo H-beam rods Billet 6061-T6 aluminum crankcase Dry sump oil system with 4 stage pump 7.25" or 5.5" Twin disc clutch DTA S80 full sequential ECU Unique cylinder offset and cam drive arrangement yields a compact design- Patented

With peak ower at 10,000 and peak torque at 7500, I suspect you might wear out a clutch or two if you ever got stuck in traffic.
However, on the open (twisty) road in a nice chassis and a sequential gearbox, you would probably find yourself shifting up and down just for the sheer delight of it. Neat toy. Les

I'm thinking the Miata would be a better candidate, either way that's an incredible engine.

Yes, it would be great for a miata, and even better for a Caterham 7.
I bet it would work pretty well in a 914 or lightweight, early 911/912?

And even the models that do come with a 'busa engine don't come with a 2.8L, 400hp, V-8 hayabusa engine?

I would imagine that thing wont put out much torque in the lower RPM's.
VERY cool idea, though

200 lbs? For what, the bare block? That is an incredible weight to hp ratio. I bet it weighs less than the 4 banger in my 944...hmmmm...
EDIT: It also has a dry sump which would be a significant upgrade for a 944...

I'm seriously thinking of pulling the Vauxhall 2.4 and replacing it with a V8...
"less than $30,000" is quoted but then 400bhp in a 1200lb car should be entertaining ![]() Ed |

I'd think that it would be cheaper and easier to put a regular 'busa bike engine in the thing. There are guys out there with 400hp coming out of a turbo charged 'busa that's not a V-8. The V-8 would probably have better low end grunt, but at 1200#, it might not matter.

If I'm being logical the Vauxhall is more than enough and has a major torque advantage (for a road car) over the 4 cylinder bike engines.
But just think of that V8 sound at high revs.... |
