Dude, walking out in the woods or on your land and a deer like that comes at you. You can defend yourself if needed if you have a weapon..

Dude, you come around a corner or over the crest of a hill at night and run into a deer that just jumped out into the road, wounding him with the car. Having a pistol with you allows you to put the animal out of its misery in a humane way.

There are many reasons why there is a good reason to have a weapon with you when you are out driving around.

It sounds like things are changing -- for the better -- in Michigan since I lived there.

I wonder if the punks knew that the gun was unloaded? The story reads kind-of weird since in one of the car-jacking attempts the writer states that the trigger was pulled. If the punk knew the gun was unloaded, why would he bother pulling the trigger? It sounds like he either didn't know the gun was unloaded and intended to murder that victim, or he was really sadistic and enjoyed terrorizing his victims.

Whatever the case, we can know with certainty that the world is a better place without him!

Hunting? Don't understand it. If someone wants to get their jollies by turning some defenseless animal into a bloody pulp just for thrills, I don't understand the motivation at all. IMHO it's one very small step away from the types of people that like to torture/kill pets.

It sounds like you've never been hunting.

It is not a sport I personally enjoy to any extreme extent, but would suggest you try hunting sometime -- you will learn that it can be extremely thrilling.

Our culture is much too "suburbanized" -- I think a whole lot more people really need to go hunting to understand their human-animal nature better. After you've been hunting, you will better understand your "hunter/gatherer" human ancestry.

I spent my early years learning to shoot through the NRA youth competitions and became fairly proficient with both long and short weapons. Skeet is the only armed sport I participate in now.
I have hunted dove, rabbit, pheasant and deer. I once shoot a rabbit at 600 yards with a 308 heavy barrel. The last time I went out was after big horn sheep, some 30 years ago.
There is no challenge to shooting a deer or big horn with a hi-powered rifle. You might as well shoot a cow.
The challenge is in the hunt not the kill.
I must admit that killing these helpless creatures started to sicken me.
At this point I choose to even admire the fish rather than kill them. Imagine, trick an intellectually inferior animal into biting a hook and then spending the most time possible torturing the terrified animal just for fun.
If you did the same thing with a cat they would send you to therapy. I believe I will celebrate natures wonders rather than murder them.

As for defending yourself from an assailant, very impressive. The truth is that you are more likely to shoot a friend or family member than any would be attacker. I would not for a moment suggest limiting law abiding citizens from owning firearms but I chuckle every time someone suggests that it's all about safety or sport.
Let's be honest, for most of you toothless, mounth breathing gun owners, holding a gun makes your pecker hard.:)

Believe it or not, there are many people in this land of plenty who must kill food in order to feed their family. If they don't hunt they don't eat. I'm sure you find that hard to believe but it is true, even in America.

How is it any different from killing a steer for the steak you might eat tonight. Just someone else doing the the killing.

I'm fortunately not one of them, but I certainly support the concept whether you have to do it to survive or for the challenge and recreation.
