Office Guilty in Gitmo Detainee Case

We've had threads about Gitmo before. This article appeared in the Dallas Morning News last Friday.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/nation/stories/051907dnnatdiaz.29005e7.html

Heading the page, that doesn't show up in the online story, is the following "guantanamo prisoners by the numbers"

380- current total

395- estimated number freed or tranferred to other countries

80- estimated number eligible for release or transfer but still in custody while the US negotiates with other countries

1- Number of completed war crimes prosecutions

55- Percentage "not accused of committing a single hostile act

8- Percentage identified by the Defense Dept as Al Qaeda fighters.

100- percentage of hearings in which the government determined enemy combatant status without producing a witness

93- Percentage of hearings in which enemy combatant status was determined without production of documentary evidence

Not exactly the "liberty and justice for all" that we portend to be. Officer Diaz felt compelled to expose it because of his oath to defend the Constitution. I hope he does NO jail time in this.

This whole Bush Administration is like a bad dream, and we are just waking up.

They left out the 12 (IIRC) who were released and later recaptured fighting US forces.

These are not American citizens and are not on American soil. They are combatants, and are being treated as such.

What is your experience in military law and trials? Diaz is in the military and committed an offense, and I hope he spends a long time in Ft. Leavenworth making small stones out of big ones. Let me guess... you have never been in the military?

Just think what the dream would be like had Kerry, spineless as he is, had been in office when 9/11 happened? We would be paying the terrorists damages for their being killed in the planes...

It's a little early to be hitting the bottle that hard Joeaksa.

Doesn't take much to get the hate flowing from Joe, does it.....

Anyway, I'm glad Condi and Robert Gates want to shut it down.

If I were truly innocent and someone put in me in jail using non-existent evidence, held me in prison for 3 years without representation, then I might be tempted to get back at my captors as well.

The whole Gitmo thing was so poorly handled that we have no idea who legitimately belongs there and who doesn't.

Not only that, but one of the torture techniques is playing Eminem constantly - if that won't make you pick up arms and fight back, what will?

You would have to ask CC about that. I am on duty right now and cannot have anything stronger than Dr. Pepper!

Let me get the violin out and play you a song! Caught on the battlefield with a gun or an explosive vest and you are harping that they were "truely innocent"...

These men were caught red handed in 99% of the cases. The ones caught a second time were caught doing the same frigging thing that they did in the first place but the bleeding heart liberals cannot see that.

Please go hug a tree somewhere.

Really? Red handed at what? If they're so red-handed, then just try then and get it over with already.

So, Joe, if I've been a JAG officer does my opinion count more?

They just wanted to get caught again so they'd be sent back to that country club our gov't built for them in a tropical paradise. Afganistan really sucks, the winters are long an harsh, and the unemployment rate is measured not by precent unemployed but, the few who are working.

It's a no-brainer take me back to Gitonimo.

Due process is not a liberal cause. If everyone is so certain of their guilt why aren't the hawks demanding trials & punishment?

The question was asked of you for a reason. There is absolutely no reason in the world to ask CC about that, that's why wasn't asked of CC, but rather asked of you.

I think booze stabilizes some personality types in the short term, then they go bi-polar again.

Joe:

Is the world really that black and white? Is one party or philosophy totally evil with no redeeming qualities? If true, then I am the one living in a fantasy.

Enlighten me, please.......
