Where are your favorite twisties?

Here's a peek at one of our great local twisties sections (we have three world class sections in our backyard) Note how the Porsche walks away from the 328 Ferrari. Of course the Ferrari would do better with a driver who could actually drive the thing... LOL

Lets see some of yours....

No pictures or videos, but I have always loved the mountain part of Rt. 211 between Culpeper and Warrenton, VA.

Long time since I've been there, tho...

these kinds of roads, near Ypres where i'm from
not my vid, should make one some day to get the idea across
this is just a small section , there's hundreds of km's of this, and with more fancy turns, jumps , then some express ways that look a bit like the Nurburg Ring

it's more exiting 120/kmh and upwards, in the dark, or wet
then there is the Kemmelberg ( a hill ) with cobblestones up and down the 25% incline... with a turn halfway

Have you discovered the delights of Old Snebly Road yet (north of Sedona)? NOT recommended for a vehicle without high ground clearance or 4WD (or a mountain bike), but it's a friggin' blast. Found that road totally by accident about 8 years ago on a trip through there back when I had my truck (and Cannondale with me) - what hella' fun I had. . .

While the 328 driver may have had some odd shifts and brake points, he paced the Porsche very well. At no time did I get a sense that the Porsche was walking away.

As a matter of fact, in naval aviation we call that a combat spread...I'd drive with the 328.

Oh yea! I've been up and down that sweet (very roudy) dirt hill a bunch of times in a 4x4 and on my quad. The tourists and tour companies have all but killed it in the last few years. Places like that are no fun with rubber-necking tourists or ugly pink jeeps.

I hear the comment about the Ferrari 328 maintaining some sort of fighter pilot spacing. If he can't fly any better than he drives the only "space" he'll be needing
is a plot at Forest Lawn. LOL But I'd love to take a Ferrari ride up that same section myself. Having owned a Dino once I'll tell you Ferrari's are outragious driving machines but very touchy and spendy to maintain (not unlike those hot fighter jets).

Okay guys back to cars and great twistie sections. I just ran the Palm Springs to Temecula (Hwy74/371/79) sections. Some of the many, many twists were 270 degrees! I got to do it twice. I gotta get a video camera mount.

On Tuesday I met with a friend in Moscow, Idaho, who had just come from Montana over Lolo Pass. Apparently, stores there sell a T-shirt modeled after the advisory road sign that has the squiggly arrow, warning of curves ahead. Below the squiggly line, the T-shirt reads "next 77 miles". I want one of those t-shirts.

Dane once planned a trip to traverse the 'old' Whitebird Grade. Traverse is a good term here. That, and the old Lewiston Grade, have more 170-degree cutbacks than you can count.

List?

Lewis and Clark from Lolo Montana into Lewiston, Id.

Route 50 from Austin to Ely...lots of t's on the passes and great runs through the valleys.

Rte 79 of the 8 into Julian, Ca...go off hours.

Silver Dollar Hwy.

Any route out/through Death Valley into China Lake

Nine Mile Road up from the desert into Kennedy Meadows.

Route 12 off of route 89 in Utah.

Oh, and combat spread keeps you out of F Lawn. Hence the name.

Ummm duh. Dragon's Tail US 129 in Tennessee. www.tailofthedragon.com

There is lots of U-tube vid on this road.

In wisconsin there are some kick butt roads near Devil's Lake state park and in Vernon county near the Mississippi river.

Seahawk: I suppose there's no chance we can get you to bring your killer/chopper out shoot some airel video? I know... NO chance but it would be a cool assignment wouldn't it?

sr944: I've not done the Dragon's Tail but it's on my list along with the Ortega Hwy and Big Bear on this end of the planet.

I remember the road around Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas was something that could have been fun, had I not been stuck in draffic while driving a rental Grand Am.

BeerBurner: Red Rock Canyon is a state park isn't it? Probably not too many opportunities to wiggle the backend around in the turns...

Any more video out there?

Take CR 346 east to 121, then south on 121 to CR320 east thru to Macintosh.

Florida is kinda flat and boring, but that road actually has more curves than google shows.

Another nice one if the traffic isn't bad is Millhopper Road, all the way west to CR241

Well, never met a curvy road that didn't like a Porsche, but living near the Santa Monica mountains that's my usual drive. The whole Mulholland area, but Highway 23 (Westlake Blvd/Decker Cyn) is my fav.

Had the opportunity to drive the Dragon last month (rental car ), and it's dynamite, but a little crowded when I was there.

Random pic from the Dragon and one from Tuscany. Click on you tube link for a Mulholland video. Call me Lucky
