Sorry - a bit off topic here......
But Chris: "Money can't buy happiness -- but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia." Made me burst into laughter at my office right now!!! (it's about lunchtime.......;)) Hope you don't mind - but I copied it to my web add for one of my Porsches |
The seller sent me an email saying no warranty and saying he had no idea how this could happen.
|
Sweet.............
How long have you had them? |
Damn Chris, that sucks. If you can find a source, perhaps you can buy just one rear wheel (as opposed to another complete set) and have Al match it to the other wheel. You could try some of the Porsche dismantlers; they'll be more expensive, but you may have better luck finding one wheel. Give Parts Heaven a call.
|
Chris,
Too bad the seller has taken that position. It's always risky buying used parts, especially wheels, but the fine folks I've purchased wheels from would have refunded the $ for that wheel... |
might want to name the seller so others can be wary.

I'm going to small claims court in a couple of weeks over this exact issue. :( |

I am at a loss in this instance. I have asked the seller if we could come to a fair resolution. I don't expect a full refund but a gesture of good faith is something I would expect from a fellow Pelican. Oh well. |
Weld repair??!! yeah if you are making a garden hose reel or a wall clock
|
Even if you win in small claims you have to collect and buddy you are own your own there, especially if >150 mile (if I recall) because you cannot request them to disclose their assets for you to seize.
Thanks for posting his user-ID, I got suspicious because my dealings were also in West LA with some guy there, need to pull my files but I know he was Armenian (sp?) and went under many names ender Ebay. California Exotics or something was one of his companies. Best of luck. Cliff |
Chris, those looked good on your car when I saw them. That is a bummer, a similar thing for me, I bought four real American Torq thrust 15x7 chevy pattern from a "friend" a couple weeks later-same story- I saw cracks in one. He told me there weren't any cracks when he sold them, that was it. I took it to MagMasters in Santa Ana and had it fixed, found another one and used the welded one for a spare. He wants to buy them all back now for a new car but I think I will sell them to someone else. Also too bad yours was the 9 inch. I am sure someone will have a spare around.
Good luck |
I'm feeling ambivalent about this issue. I sold a car once (just under 100k miles on it) and a week later the buyer called and said the dash lights went dead and it was going to cost big bucks (computer/electronics failure of some sort) and wanted me to pay for it or take the car back.
The buyer had a PPI done and I'd had no indication that such a problem might be forthcoming. I expressed my sympathy that the problem had occured but, given the mileage on the car and the PPI, I didn't feel obligated - nor would I have felt like the buyer felt had I been the buyer. Caveat emptor - not necessarily beware; rather, be aware that stuff wears out and fails - sooner & sooner with increasing age. Granted that the seller's moniker ain't one to inspire confidence in terms of buying something from him, but how many miles of use were on that wheel? Yes, it would be brotherly if the seller covered it, but I hesitate to condemn him because he won't. |
If Al refinshed them I would take them back to him and ask them if the Fuchs were chromed before he refinshed them..
|
Wow, what a bummer, esp. given the price it looks like you paid for those wheels.
I don't think you could win in small claims court. The seller will just say "Hey, these are TWENTY YEAR OLD USED wheels, sold as is, they looked fine when they left me, he accepted them, and now he comes back 2 weeks later and says one is broken, how can that be my fault?" Still is teh suk, though. |

Just a thought. |

If these cracks were there when they were sold, wouldn't you have noticed them when you inspected the wheels before purchase or when the tires were mounted on the wheels or when you mounted the wheels on the car or when you cleaned the wheels? Maybe not, but they look REALLY obvious in your photos - silver cracks on a black finish are hard to miss.
If they were tiny hairline cracks you couldn't see (that became larger as you used them), is it possible the seller couldn't see them either? |
I have not blamed or condemned the seller but I do think that the merchandise is faulty. I understand that I drove on the wheels. I looked at them before I purchased them but it could be I was so happy to have the wheels that I didn't look carefully enough or that the 100 miles I drove was just enough to send the wheel into failure. But I think that an honorable seller would lower the price based on the fact that the merchandise failed or at least be willing to discuss this with the buyer. I believe that the stress cracks were probably there but both the seller and myself didn't see them. He deemed them as perfect, I bought them based on his statement of the product. If I had any idea this was a possibility, I would have never made a deal to purchase. Another expensive lesson learned I suppose.

See that's where I have a problem when someone sells a item as perfect. I have bought Fuchs that were so called "perfect" from a member here only to have one of the lugs area's drilled apart..
Some members get it other's don't... |
