Two things, first do you have the contract open in any other program, like word, or acrobat?

Second the folder that contains the contract, what are your effective permissions on the folder? If you can just copy the file to another folder, or perhaps your desktop and try attaching it again.

Do you have a web client available for your email?

That's always a great backup and good for traveling as well.

scott,....

nope the contract is not open anywhere else....... the doc is on my desktop, that is the problem... the problem looks like it is attaching anything to an email... "access denied" keep coming up.

odd because its my company!.... RRRR i think i might have a virus of some kind.

i have tried attaching the document through my other email account so the urgency is handled, but i need to attach doc's to emails.

anyone know of this "access denied" bugger?

What is the document? Some sys admins block attaching .zips and .exes to prevent viruses/worms from spreading.

Most likely permissions as Scott R had indicated.

stomachmonkey,

it is a simple word doc, that i have used for years, as recently as 5 days ago......

i have never seen "access denied" before.

i am not a strong systems guy so this is super frustrating.

Close Outlook, reopen and try again.
Reboot the machine and reopen Outlook.

clean out your mailbox of antique and rubbish, empty the trash
consolidate the mailbox ( or whatever its' called , it's a basic outlook DB cleanup and reindexing job)

and do the same on your pc
turn off applications, remove temp files, cleanup unwanted stuff, empty thrash, then defrag the bugger

reboot, and try again...

Do you have a lot of stuff in your inbox/outbox.... As Stijn said, try cleaning those up. Also, what version of Outlook?

Dave

On older versions of Outlook (2000), the file was limited to 2 gigs. If you don't clear out your inbox..... this can happen. the files are .pst

The problem most likely that you outlook.pst file is too big. You have to get rid of old crap first. This is the way to fix your problem.

Dave

yeah, pst.

One of the things I love about MSFT products.

Couple of years agao was running Entourage, (Outlook for the Mac) and all of the sudden it blows up on me. Relaunch app and it says I have surpassed my 2 gb limit. So sorry, shutting down now. WTF!!!!!! Launch again and force the rebuild and after 15 minutes of churning it says that I have surpassed my 2 gb limit. I swear it gave me the finger and then promptly shut down again.

Hit the net and come to find that I'm screwed, all my mail is gone, no utilities out there to crack the DB file and get my mail back.

Tons of people who have had the same issue. You get the alert box AFTER you are hosed. WTF is that???? They can't throw up an alert that says "Hey dude, you are reaching your 2 gb limit, back up now before you loose it all.

I get over it, barely.

Then to add insult to injury 2 weeks go by and MSFT release a new version and upped the DB limit to 4 gb and make a big deal that it now warns you BEFORE the DB gets full and corrupt.

I had a backup of the old toasted one and optmistically hope I can use it with the updated app. Swap the DB's, launch mail and ohhh, soooo sooorry, this DB is from an older version of Entourage and will not work. Please go bang your head against something hard for a while.

PRE-H20,
Have you tried any work arounds?
Drag and drop the contract file into the new message window.
On the menu bar go to Insert > File

Also have you tried to run Outlook in safe mode?
Go to Start > Run
Type in Outlook.exe /safe
Try and send message with attachment.
This will launch Outlook without certain extensions and customizations, sometimes components within outlook can become corrupt and this helps narrow it down.

I agree about the .pst issues, but usually when you reach the 2GB limit you see many more errors (messaging subsystem, etc).
My personal favorite error message is "An unknown error has occurred"

If the .pst is corrupt then there are utilities to recover the messages.

Just some suggestions, keep us posted.

Rob

how about listing his inbox by size and moving the largest email to another folder, also could the sent box be filled....

Whacking or stoing all sent messages from 2006 or older in another folder as well.

pmajka,
Good point, but since his .pst file size is cumulative of all his folders he can't just move it to another folder, the .pst file would remain the same size. He would have to create another .pst file to archive that mail to. Also Outlook isn't smart enough to "compact" the .pst file once messages are deleted so he would have to use the built in "compact" utility to squeeze out that dead space.

Rob
