Is this fastener from an aircraft?
Found this in my backyard sitting out in the rocks. This is in an area where we're constantly picking up from the dog, and a large mesquite tree. Can't figure out where it would have come from except that planes taking of from the Phoenix airport fly directly over our house all day and night. Length is just under 1".

Possibly, but I don't see any manufacturer's markings on it. Usually it will say something like "NAS601-8P" or something like that. As a minimum, it would have to have some traceability markings on it.

Usually tamper-resistsant drives like that are used in places where John Q. Public might fiddle with it, like in a public restroom stall. Vandalism-resistant would be a better description. Same as locking lug nuts.
It might be from an airplane but i doubt it. Prolly some kids found it and threw it into your yard. |

Nope, not aircraft. Aircraft have fine threads and that one is not.
Agree with Sammy and it probably came from a bathroom at McDonnalds or the like...

It's a tamperproof fitting. It's for what was said above.

Lee,
Its a cadmium plated steel anti tamper screw. Not aerospace. Probably used where it needs to non removeable without the key like a wheel lock. I work on aircraft daily and have never seen anything like that. Even in our supplier books.

Better to be missing from the door of a McDonalds than the door of a McDonald-Douglas.

I have worked on every Douglas built airplane in the last 25 years. That is not of a Douglas installation. Maybe Airbuss, they have some goofy hardware....Oh! That goes on theire nose gear oleo strut.. If that falls out the gear does a 90 when down and locked...

Doesn't look like any sort of aircraft component that I've seen.

Lee - take your family and get out. The "cleaners" are coming from Area 51. Leave this evidence of Alien Spacecraft behind. That is your only hope. Dont take your cell phone, dont use your credit card. Dont bother posting here for help - in an hour all references to this thread will be gone. Run, hurry!

My dad once told, that, if you unscrew your bellybutton, your a$$ will fall off.
Can I have my bellybutton screw back now?
